There is often a constant debate about where to take your child to for the best education available in Lagos state. If you are parent or guardian, there are a plethora of options available to you. And you are basically spoiled for choice.

I had a tour of the Imperial Gate School (IGS), Lekki. It does not come to me as a surprise that they are easily the best private school in Lagos.

The sheer magnificence of the premises and a naturally-pleasing ambience was welcoming. It is indeed a beautiful small world.

It is the dream school of any kid. I met some of the staff members and teachers. They were neatly-dressed and well-spoken and they had an amiable aura about them. It is the first signal that your kids are in good hands.

I asked questions about learning, sports and extracurricular activities. They have all the bases covered.

IGS offers pre-school, nursery and primary education across the relevant age groups. They are compliant with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum which empowers the personal, social, emotional development of children. These include self-confidence, self-esteem and a sense of community.

At primary classes 1-6, the child begins to ask questions, learn and think for themselves. The Integrated International Curriculum is structured to suit the needs of individual children. It reflects the new direction in education and advancement in global development.

IGS has policies and guidelines for all areas of the curriculum. These policies and guidelines help teachers plan balanced programme for their pupils – balanced in terms of curricular areas and learning experiences which help each pupil progress at a pace and in a manner appropriate to his or her age, aptitude and ability. They organise field trips and educational tours to enrich the pupils' experiences.

IGS also offers after-school services in the form of reinforcement of classroom lessons, engagement in further studies and monitoring of children's homework. It is open to any child in the school and runs from 3:00pm to 4:30pm from Monday to Thursday.

Facilities include: Air-conditioned classrooms, Science Laboratory, ICT room, a well-equipped library, a safe playground, swimming pool and a music room for honing talents.
