There's been different reasons causing setback/drawbacks to Nigeria as a country, but have you take your time to reason why this culture of a thing jeopardize the prosperity if this country..

There’s no single culture in Nigeria, and the multiple cultures present are very disimilar. However, there is what can be seen as a sort of universal belief and behaviours. These behaviours are not exactly unique to Nigerians but in some way they are magnified in a typical Nigerian. Some of these beliefs are listed below alongside what can be termed their nagatives.

Too much emphasies on respect for older people regardless of a situation (Not necessarily old people bit anyone who is older than you even by just 2 years). Which creates some psychologocal problems.
This automatically creates a nation of people who bare fearful and not exactly confident...

Its really disheartening seeing some reasons that should have been clear enough but no why do we chose no to see it...

* Bigotry
* Tolerance

These are further explained by a renowned prof.
