Chinese president Xi Jinping has presided over the inauguration of a second international airport for Beijing with a terminal billed as the world's biggest.

Beijing Daxing International Airport, built in less than five years for 120 billion yuan (£13.5 billion/$16.8 billion), is designed to handle 72 million passengers a year.



Guests gather in the brand new airport for its launch ceremony. The SkyTeam alliance, which includes Delta, Air France and Dutch airline KLM, may move to the new airport.

Check-in staff at the airport get prepared to welcome the very first passengers to Beijing Daxing International.

The terminal building, resembling a massive shining starfish, was designed by late British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid.

Last week, authorities unveiled the hub's main air traffic control tower. The 20-storey structure, designed to resemble the shape of a feather from a phoenix, took workers two years to build.


Airlines including Air China and China Eastern Airlines are sending their aircraft to the airport for test flights from next week. The £9 billion airport, which will have seven runways, is scheduled to complete on June 30 and open on September 30

Construction of Beijing Daxing International Airport comes as the country is witnessing a fast growth in its civil aviation industry.

China is expected to overtake the United States as the world's largest aviation market in the mid-2020s.



The airport will also be equipped with cutting-edge technologies. Facial-recognition devices and real-time baggage tracking will reportedly be used during the security and immigration screenings.

The airport, constructed with 1.6 million cubic metres of concrete and 52,000 tonnes of steel, cost 79.9 billion yuan (£9.2 billion) to build, according to People's Daily.

China as always been a world power ever since its inception(even rivaled Roman empire).

That was where gunpowder and printing and more stuffs were invented which shaped the world we live in today.

But they too had their own downtime during the opium wars, boxer rebellion, ww2 Japanese invasion, warring states, Chinese civil war(nationalist vs communist party) till the19th century.

When we're talking about country that has her citizens at heart unlike ours whose leaders are only for their pockets.

When I watched a documentary about China Biggest Dam I understand the reason to have good and honest person at helm of government.

The Dam was 2km long and 60 storeys tall.
It will take 40,000 workers and 17 years to build and when it fully comes online, it'll generate 20,000MW of electricity for over 20 millions Chinese.

The amazing things about this Dam are:
1) The Chinese government has to relocate millions of people that will be displaced at the back of the river from the flood.
2) because of the large volume of the water that'll be retained, the dam will actually slow down the speed of the earth thou just by fraction.
3) The river is the longest river in China and one of the river for trade and transportation.
So because of this the trade and transportation activities will be disrupt and blocked after completion.

Guess what they do.....
They have to create artificial lift (like an elevator) for both the cargo ship and passenger ship.

For the cargo, it's a series of lock gate and the ship will be there for like 3-4 hours after filling the basin with water, this will lift the ship and take it to the other side of the river but for the passenger ship, this is too slow and taking much time.

So they have to build, a special lift where both the ship and the basin will be lifted by a very gigantic elevator to the other side of the river in less than 30mins.

Real leaders not the types we have in Africa, maybe except Paul Kagame of Rwanda.
