The media in Nigeria was awash with the story of 36 cows struck dead by thunder in Ondo state. Many, even the Aare Onakankafo, Otunba Gani Adam's attribute the incident to mean that the "gods" are angry because the cows desecrated a sacred land.

My brother said he read someone's comment online that thunder killing cows happened elsewhere in the world. Then I went Google searching. Here are my findings...

Scientific research show that since the soil would be wet from rain and if the electrical conductivity of the ground is poor, current wil flow tightly and animals are at higher risk because of how they are standing.

This is about the erroneous belief that the "gods" were the culprit in the death of those cows.

People are quick to comment on bad news. The particular thread that first reported the incident here on nairaland generated 100s of comments. Now, this thread aimed at putting the records straight has only gotten one comment, which is even off point. Is that to say we don't like the truth?
