*Preamble*
Social media are websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. While pressure simply depicts a situation of force that can have significant and negative results. Therefore social media pressure can be referred to as a set of tests measured sleep quality, self-esteem, anxiety, depression and emotional investment in social media which relates to the pressure felt to be available 24/7 while social media bullying means a form of harassment using electronic means such as social media platform.

*THE REAL DEAL*
There is no doubt that social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram , WhatsApp etc have benefits, the benefits ranges from sharing of information and business ideas to serving as a channel for business growth and advertisement.

Unfortunately, most of us have made social media our "god and validator ", that is to say without going on social media in a day, it seems as if our world wants to end or is it that attitude of feeling depressed just because there was no like or comment on your post. On the other hand, there was a comment and the comments were derogatory, now because of that your entire day is ruin.
It is important we discussed this considering the increase in rate of depression and suicides. According to studies conducted around the world, there is a clear relationship or in causal link between the use of social media and negative effects on well-being, primarily depression and loneliness. The aforementioned association is always possible if there is no judicious use of social media.

*Source or Risk factors of social media pressure*

1. *I must be online (have data) syndrome* -This group of individuals are unnecessarily pressured, stressed and anxious once they run out of DATA. To them. data is life and oxygen. At times you begin to wonder if the data is really oxygen. The addiction is so strong that they can go any extent just to get data. Some can even sacrifice their food and personal dignity just to get data and subscription. Some common comment you begin to see or hear from this social media addicts are -"for the past 6months I have been online, 24/7 I no dey shake, I dey online ". At times I just wonder why we create problems for ourselves .

2. *Imitations and false image*
*Majority of the people on instagram and other social media platforms tends to live fake life, in fact, "PRETENCE IS NOW A FORM LIVING AND SURVIVE in social media space. Because of this fake flamboyant life, most of the gullible youth and adults are at severe pressure to meet up. When we are at our best our reaction to the flamboyant life style and display of cash could be being happy for them, leaving a positive comment or a ‘like’ on their post. However,if we’re going through rough patches in our lives, this social media flamboyancy could make us think “ Why are other people’s lives so perfect and happy?” It can be easy to fall into a trap of comparing our lives to the lives of our Instagram friends and celebrities. This can have a negative impact on our mood and our self-esteem.

3. *Bullying and mean and insufficient comment or like*

Most of youths and adults of nowadays are busy depending on social media validation for their happiness and peace of mind. They will almost go mad, If there is no like or comment on their pictures. Similarly, any negative comment or bullying can destroy their happiness and self esteem resulting in stress and depression.

Other risk factors for social media pressure include :-
**Seeing a love interest with someone else may make you feel depressed and insecure

**Political posts that you don’t agree with

**Feeling like you can never keep up with what everyone else has

**Being directly attacked

***low number of followers or friends

*Health Effects of social media pressure*

A. Anxiety and stress
B. Depression
C. Suicide
D. Personality disorder
E. Antisocial tendency like loneliness, truancy
F. Relationship problems and family breakdown
G. Suicide

*Solution -Way out*
1. Avoid imitating people on social media, don't be distracted by their flamboyant life style and display of cash, just focus on your hustle, one day it will surely pay. Trust me, you are far better than them

2.Quit depending on social media for validation. I implore this day to depend on God and yourself for validation. Third hand or social media validation will add nothing to your life. Believe in yourself and forge ahead

3. Block and move ahead -I bet you, it is a waste of energy and resources to engage in social media fight. If you have a friend or family that bully's you or a friend that always fraught your social media with negative comments, all you have to do is just to block or unfollow them. Focus on the positive side of life, life is too short and sweet to be wasting all your time on negative vibes.

4. Just make a post in social media platform and ignore all the likes and comments. There is nothing wrong in appreciating or getting likes or comments, but do not allow your life depends on it.

5. TAKE A BREAK
when the pressure is too and ravaging your entire being, I advise you to take a break, unplug! Yes, it is okay to unplug from time to time. Sometimes I find it really important to just live in the moment and forget about social media.

Other tips for controlling social media pressure are:-
***Don't over do it. Stop spending all day on your social media. How do you feel scrolling through the lives of others for 24 hours a day.

***Take it all with a pinch of salt. Dont take criticism too seriously

***You don't need loads of likes and comments to succeed in life
***Filtering reality - filter the comments and suggestions and focus only on the positives and the constructive criticisms.

***Live in the moment.
