J111333: Nipost is one of the most corrupt govt agencies. That's how Private couriers DHL, FedEx, ups GIGtook their business. Apart from buying stamp and WAEC forms and those who subscribe for hard copy magazines via mail box, never patronise them 3 Likes |

No, its not extortion. Those who are shouting about this obviously haven't been doing transactions with NIPOST of late. Ask your cousin if they didn't issue him a teller for the bill and all that. I took delivery of 3kg and 4kg children clothes from the Netherlands lately and I was billed 7k and I think 9k respectively, with receipts also. I learnt a lot have changed in their operations. Before now, I use to pay between #1,700 and #2000. Meanwhile... Are you a teacher? Get FREE access to the best compilation of school lesson notes/plans, curriculum and exams. What type mail did you use, is it registered mail or ems If it is registered of which I am familiar with they are not supposed to charge you guys shii shii, but you can give them money to buy airtime... And for USP to charge you $120,for just 2laptops, I don't think it's registered mail, that's too weighty |

J111333: Dont mind those NIPOST officials, you dont pay for pick up since the sender has already paid delivery fee. Threaten them with the police. This is why I stopped using them. They just suddenly became so money hungry. A small cosmetic I normally send for 1500 they started charging 4k whether it's up to a kg or not. I now use other logistic companies. GIG is even fair. And its 24hrs. Nipost will take four working days. Ndi ara. 3 Likes |

I receive Aliexpress items from Nipost and o know they charge per kg to pick up items at their office. I did my checks and found out these charges are official. What I don't know in your case is... What's the weight of the laptops. Whatever the case, your cousin can ask them for an explanation on how they came up with the charges. I always do that and I get reasonable responses. 1 Like |

They add the charge from customs What people don't know is that all sent or imported goods has to pass through customs and 2 laptops will be billed and can get to that amount I think it's official and calculated There's always a receipt available, you can take it and if you see any wrong doing, make a complaint Just be aware that customs duties are paid worldwide on all couriered goods 2 Likes |

J111333: this has nothing to do with Nigerian Postal Service. That amount is custom duty. A DN was prepare after inspection by custom officers in IMPC lagos. We collect these cash and remit to them. If you know your way around and if you are in the system, there is usually a way to reduce the amount if not, its a normal thing. Thank you |

I once reported this issue to their email. They replied some days later asking some details about the package and a number to call once I get the post office. I'd have shared the number but I don't know if it was given for that particular case. Send a complain explaining the issue to their mail. |

Re: Is This Extortion By The Nigeria Post Office? by revelation2013(m): 12:26pm On Oct 04, 2019 |
Ask your cousin to go back there and ask for what the payment is for or how they arrived at that amount. Your cousin should go with a phone that can record and secretly record their conversion. Let your cousin meet a superior like the manager or so and tell him that you her cousin, have paid $120 for everything related to shipment and delivery over there. She was just told to come and pickup. Let her tell him you need better explanation because she will need to explain to you so you can give her the money to pay. If it is legit the staff will even give her a way to verify the amount like a website of where the charges are listed or an officially printed brochure which she can snap. Come back here and let us know how it goes. |
