IkpuMmadu: They didn't do it alone, and they were losing at initial attempts. It is the same way you people live your life till today. you would come as traders, business men or help lookers with no suspect of subliminal undertone of usurpation of power. They would come to trade in someones land and join you to go to church, engaging in all social activities your community does, in no distant time, after bringing in a large portion of their brothers, they start clamouring to head the market group/association. Installing their so called Eze in peoples community, we saw the recent problems it brought out in yoruba land. The history clearly states that a problem between step brothers led to this and the Ibibios were not chased out but the losing sides, that's why their culture still remains there till today and eternity. 1 Like |

comfokon: Everybody claims Igbo people came to their land, so Enugu belonged to Benue people, Ebonyi to Cross Rivers, Abia to Akwa Ibom, Anambra to Benue and Kogi, Imo to Ikwerre people, Delta to Bini and their delta brothers, but Igbos settled and live in these places today. Bikonu where exactly did these Igbos come from, are they angels from heaven? 5 Likes 1 Share |

The poster is partly right but absolutely wrong in ethnic coloration. Before the coming of Europeans ethnic groupings were basically nonexistent in Nigeria. The strict definition of ethnicity created hundreds and has continued to create more over the years across Nigeria. Present day Abia State from Asa/Ndoki all the way to Arochukwu have presence of people with Ibibio/Efik/Annang ancestry assimilated into Igbo and same goes with Akwaibom with largest concentration of Igbo assimilates among Annang ethnic group. Ikot-Chukwu, Ikot-Ibekwe and so many other Ibibio villages have unquestionable Igbo ancestry and so does any Mgboko you see in Ngwaland. At a time the Ngwas used Mgboko as the general name of Annang and it is said to have originated from "Mbok" an Ibibioid word for plea. Till date Itu Mbuzo still speaks Ibibio in Abia State with majority of the Itu people in Akwaibom. However the present day reality has placed the Ikot-Ibekwes, Mgboko Amaises and other peoples of Igbo or Ibibio origin found across both States as members of the ethnic groups they live among and trying to reverse it is impossible. 1 Like |

I am from a village that is very close to Abariba. Our history says our progenitor married from the present day Cross River. Whether we are from Ibibio or not, I don't care. What matters today is that we are Igbos and proud. But to set the records straight, we are not from Ibibio. We are Igbos 1 Like |
