THE Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Chairman Dr Kayode Fayemi on Sunday said governors were not divided on the new minimum wage implementation.

According to him, they do not see the national minimum wage increase as a general wage review.

Fayemi, who spoke with our correspondent on the phone, said: “We are not divided. We have agreed to the national minimum wage and we are paying. Even if we do not agree, the National Minimum Wage is already a law which is binding.

“Our proposal during the negotiation was N24, 500 minimum wage but at the end of the negotiation, N30, 000 was the agreed figure and we abide by that because it is now a law.

“However, governors are very clear that a national minimum wage increase is not tantamount to a general wage review.

“Whilst we know that there may be a need for a minimal consequential adjustment, we (governors) are together with the Federal Government that this should not exceed nine per cent.

“We think nine per cent is too much for those who are already earning above the minimum wage.

“It is a minimum wage increase; it is not a national wage review in the sense that it affects those who are earning below N30, 000.”

Another governor from Northcentral, who spoke in confidence, said: “Some states have not paid the N30, 000 minimum wage because there is no general agreement yet on the consequential increase. Negotiation is still on and the NGF is fully represented.

“The government has offered nine per cent consequential increase across the board for those who are earning above the minimum wage threshold but the Nigeria Labour Congress is asking for a 45 per cent increase.

“The Federal Government has said 45 per cent consequential increase is unrealistic. The government has already made provision for the N30, 000 minimum wage in 2020 Budget. Where do they expect the government to get the funds?
“Some consequential increase may be sensible but this demand for 45 per cent is unrealistic.”

2019 is all but over and the FG and SG are yet to implement the wage increment.

They may still be singing this same song by this time next year.

“We think nine per cent is too much for those who are already earning above the minimum wage.

So 9% increase is too much for one earning 30,001 Naira Mr Fayemi?

Govt wont pay those that work yet can't set up a good system to support the self employed.

I was just going through the analysis of Buhari's Independence day speech. There is little hope for Entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

Buhari is only concerned with kwaraption this, kwaraption that!

Anyway, Check my signature.

Pathetic stories that comes after the elections.Labour union were beating on the game. They don't have any option than to accept the 9% across board.45% is unrealistic while bogus emoluments and security votes senators and executives collect are realistic and affordable.

I remember during the build up of the 2019 general elections, there was a propaganda (characteristic of APC) that the minimum wage of #30,000 has been signed and implementation effective immediately, their online miscreants and zombies headed by the Chief zombie were all over the media space, telling us how APC is the best thing after sliced bread and honey.

Today with recent developments , they can now agree within themselves that they are zombies, being manipulated by selfish and wicked politicians.

I blame the stupid leadership of labour, they were too gullible, they should have embarked on a nation wide strike then as that's the best time to get a good deal from these selfish politicians, today it's obvious they have been scammed.

They should not bother to disturb the peace of the nation with their useless strikes.

Labour are busy working on daily basis to make the country a better place.

Before their salaries are being sent into their accounts...Nigerian government do collect the tax allocated to each of them according to their levels.

But just for the government to appreciate their work and give to them what is actually theirs... They are just busy cooking up stories to cover-up their inability to deliver effectively.

Dx government of dx ountry is something else.

Meanwhile,as a patriotic citizen.. It is my duty to always make available Pure Original HOney... Call or whatsapp me on 0 8 1016 66 771 if you need it... Thanks

9% Isn't realistic. Many states pay graduates 30k presently. So when they increase d salary of a cleaner from 18k to 30k and now increase that of a graduate by 9%, he earns 32,500.
So d lowest person earns 30k while a graduate earns 32k.
