Nigeria’s Super Falcons crashed out of the women’s football event of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Monday, October 7, after playing out a 1-1 draw with Cote d' Ivoire at the Agege Stadium Lagos.
The result meant the Falcons were sent packing on away goal rule after the first leg away from home finished 0-0.
The encounter saw the Falcons start brightly with Gift Monday test the Ivorian shot-stopper from the edge of the box, but her effort missed target.
On the 12th minute mark, the visitors netted the opening goal of the match, courtesy of Kapho Nana free-kick that flew past Falcons goalkeeper Nnadozie.
Ange N’guessan had a decent opportunity to double the Ivorians lead minutes after the opener, but she failed to score, leaving scores at 1-0.

Four minutes after the half hour, Asisat Oshoala equalized for Nigeria , finishing off a through pass to ensure both teams were level going into the break .

After the restart, the Falcons came more into the contest and had more possession of the ball, but Rasheedat Ajibade missed what could have been Nigeria’s second goal with her final touch.

Francisca Ordega’s effort came off the woodwork, although she was flagged offside.
From then on the visitors employed of form of tactics to run down the time until the final whistle.

However, there was confusion all over as officials of Nigeria Football Federation and their Ivorian counterparts were spotted crosschecking FIFA and CAF rules in a bid to know how to decide two legged affair based on away goals.
