Gombe Governor moves to address youth restiveness, unemployment

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has restated his commitment to end youth restiveness and unemployment through the provision of technical and vocational skills training to the teeming youths in the state.

The Governor was speaking at the closing ceremony of the National Industrial Skills Development Programme(NISDP) at ETF Community Education Resource Centre, where starter packs were distributed to over 500 trainees.

Governor Yahaya who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau described wealth creation and self employment as the key to addressing unemployment in the society.

Describing youths as catalysts for the development of the state and the nation, Governor Yahaya re-echoed the commitment of his administration to empower them to be self reliant and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state.

He commended the Industrial Training Fund for providing indigenous manpower sufficient to meeting the needs of the nation in tandem with the objectives of the National Enterprise Development Programmme.

He called on corporate organizations and philanthropists in the state to complement government's efforts by creating more jobs to the teeming youths in the state.

In his remarks ,the Director General, Industrial Training Fund, Sir, Joseph Ntung Ari said the National Industrial Skills Development Programme is one of the initiatives towards achieving President Buhari's agenda of job creation, adding that over 13000 youths were trained across the nation in skills acquisition, including fabrication, plumbing, tailoring and POP.

He revealed that Gombe State was the only state that did not benefit from the programme for the last two years.

He appreciated the incumbent administration for providing enabling environment for the programme to take off in Gombe state.

The Director General assured that ITF would continue to come up with multifaceted ideas of job creation to keep at bay the hydra- headed monster of unemployment.

Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry Information,Alhaji Adamu Musa Kumo, who is also the overseeing Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, explained that the event was to mark the graduation ceremony and distribution of starter packs to 500 beneficiaries of the 2017 Skills Acquisition Training Program.

He explained that the programme was a collaboration between Gombe State government and ITF.
