Pillars promises Kaduna United a tough game Chairman of Kano Pillars, Tukur Babangida has promised Kaduna United a tough battle when the two teams meet in the first game of the Nigeria Premier League, November 6th. Babangida said that despite the limited time they had to prepare for the new season; they will still give the Kaduna side a good fight for the three points. “I am very confident of my team this season. We may have lost some players but we have capable replacements. “We are going to Kaduna with the intention of getting the three points at stake. We know Kaduna United is also preparing very well, but we are equal to the task,” said the Chairman. Kano Pillars defeated Kaduna United in the same fixture last season with the goal from former striker, Ahmed Musa. http://www.npl.com.ng/news.php

RANGERS, LOBI IN FIVE GOALS THRILLER Monday, November 8, 2010, 11:22News52 viewsAdd a comment Siasia Falls With Heartland In Bauchi 3SC Ground Sunshine Stars Eguma’s Dolphins Pip Plateau In Jos Rangers International and Lobi stars gave Enugu fans so much to cheer on the opening day of the 2010/2011 Premier League with both teams involved in a five goals thriller. The hosts made their home advantage count with three goals that dwarfed Lobi Star two strikes. Fred Okwara (15 Mins), Ejike Uzoenyi (44mins) and Brendan Ogbu (92mins) all scored to fetch the maximum points but perhaps it was Ogbu’s stoppage time goal that proved vital with the game heading to a two all draw finishing. In Ibadan, Shooting Stars were truly at home, coming from behind to earn a 2-1 win over hard fighting Sunshine Stars. Akombo Ukeyima got the visitors onto a brilliant start, handling them a first half lead with a well headed in 8 minutes goal. But Ganiyu Salami would reply with a brace in the second period to hand Sooting all three points on offer on the first day of the new season. Stanley Eguma proved his superiority over his former assistant, Ndubuisi Nduka with Dolphins recording the only away victory of the new season. Dolphins visit to Rwang Pam stadium, Jos proved rewarding with Owusu Adae scoring in the 8 minute of the opening period. Enyimba, six times champions began their title defence on a brilliant note in Aba. It was John Chukwudi’s 45th minute goal that handed the hosts the maximum points. Tornadoes earned a 1-0 win over newly prompted Crown FC of Ogbomosho with Baba Sule fetching the eventual winner a quarter of an hour after kick off. In Bauchi, inside the Tafawa Balewa stadium, Heartland of Owerri crashed 0-2 to Gombe United with goals from Salaudeen Rafiu (25mins) and Ifeanyi Okoro (52mins). New Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia was on the losing Heartland’s bench while Victor Ezeji opened scoring for Sharks against JUTH inside the Sharks stadium, Port Harcourt. But his 76th strike was cancelled out by James Amakwei on the dot of 90 minutes to ensure that the two teams shared the points. |

Tuesday, 9 November 2010 NPL names Team of the Week Twelve outstanding performers have been rewarded for glowing displays on the opening weekend of the Nigeria Premier League. On a weekend which saw one away win and three draws, there was no shortage of heros. Dolphins goalkeeper stood out, with a succession of crucial interventions to help his team hold out for a valuable three points on the road. The combination of the clean sheet and excellent display was enough to beat out the competition from Ocean Boys' Olufemi Thomas, who stopped a penalty at the Enyimba Stadium. In defence, Kano Pillars' Alhaji Alhaji's bounding raids down the right flank earn him the right back spot, while resurgent veteran Ajibade Omolade of Plateau United sneaks into the left back position. "Ajibade was excellent at left back and deserves his place in the team of the week even though they lost," says Dolphins Media Officer China Acheru. Monday Osagie of Kwara United,a nd ThankGod Ike of Warri Wolves were on opposite ends of a 1-0 result, with Ike the happier of the two. But both men did more than enough to find themselves on the same side as the centreback duo in the Team of The Week. Two goalscoring players are at the centre of midfiel. Defensive midfielder Emmanuel Omodiagbe bagged the winner for Warri Wolves, and Kingsley Odoh found the back of the net twice, although his Lobi Stars still went down 2-3 to Rangers. Gombe United's Rafiu Salaudeen and Rangers' Ejike Uzoenyi also scored their way into right and left midfield respectively. Upfront, 3SC's two-goal match-winner leads the line along with Kano Pillars' Rabiu Ali, whose wicked half volley set the league runners-up on their way to a valuable away point. The team will be coached by Stanley Eguma, who masterminded the weekend's only road win.
