The Senate Committee on Niger Delta Monday rejected the 2020 Budget of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, for omitting major ongoing projects in its Capital Appropriation.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, however asked the committee to appear before the panel next Monday to show how far they have reflected the Ministry’s budget.

Senator Nwaoboshi gave the directive during a budget defence session of the ministry in Abuja.
The Senator representing Delta North insisted that with the oversight function carried out in the ministry, it was realised that the bane of the ministry was abandoned projects littered all over the nine states.

He said: “There is no state; I dare to say that there is no local government where there are no abandoned projects in the Niger Delta.

“We cannot continue like that. With all the abandoned projects in the Niger Delta and we are talking about new projects; these new projects are designed to fail.

“Honourable Minister, we need to look at this budget again and we expect you to do your cleanup because the document we needed were not supplied to us.”

He warned that the habit were “we have proliferation of abandoned projects cannot continue.”

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari has not commissioned any completed project executed by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in the last four years.

In his contribution, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe noted that the Ministry’s budget is an “uncommon budget.”

“When a budget is designed to fail it is uncommon,” Abaribe said.

Proper probe of that ministry will bring sanity and development to ND, the ministry has been useless to the oil producing state in the past.

Our thinking for many decades, even as teenager(s) : Niger Delta region should be one of the best if not the best region in the whole of Africa assuming our government have been doing things right, pre democracy and when our denocracy started in 1999.
The best schools, best hospitals, best ports, best everything should be in Niger Delta region for real,
while they spread it to other region all over the nation from there.
This is where over half of what we depend on as a nation comes from.
You protect and guide where you are making your money from.

But our leaders and Niger delta leaders have only been after their personal pockets.
There is one of their leader that disappeared since 2015 after collecting BILLIONS from the Jonathan just to secure the pipelines, another one used our money to go established a university in a neighboring country!
There is another one that was jailed in the UK few years ago!
A big shame.

May Ken Saro-Wiwa's soul continue to rest in perfect peace.
We pray he won't die in vain for his people.

We rise!

Good job by the committee. Hope they will continue this probe judiciously to a logical conclusion. The corruption under NDDC is actually too much. They are the Commander-in-Chief of abandoned projects in ND.

Also you have to pay officials of NDDC some money to get their attention in fixing roads sometimes. This is unacceptably wrong as they will still use government money to execute the projects

Before you quote me sha.... remember NDDC is still under MNDA

People who are familiar with operation of Senate Committees during budget defence will be familiar with scenario that is contained in the report.

Fact: Nothing is fundamentally wrong with budget proposal submitted. The noise is about take home.
Senators Nwaoboshi, Abaribe and some other members of this senate committee are the same senators who oversighted past Niger Delta Ministry budgets over the years that gave rise to uncompleted projects inspite huge money budgeted.

Tip: If you follow the big grammar or the argument, you will miss the road. But if you follow the money, you will get to the destination.

What do you think? A man who decamped to APC with the charges suspended. How else can they recover election expenses? It is the standard practice of our politicians. Abandon old projects, start endless new ones to make plenty of money to fill their pockets.

Today the same man is telling you how they are programming your budget of failure. How come non of your senators has stood up for you. Same way the 13% oil money you Eat was fought And won by Ojukwu at Abacha conference in 1995
