CLUELESS WIVES

As it often happens when I see a Nigerian movie on Netflix, I sigh and take a leap of faith. Most of the movies are disappointing, but occasionally they add a good one.

Yesterday I watched The Bling Lagosians and was pleasantly surprised as we got to the second half of the movie.

First half was mediocre.
- Bambam is not sexy. I think she looks weird.
- The party planner was not "extravagant" enough.
- A marriage counsellor who has marriage issues. What a cliché.
- Alex acting as an uneducated movie studio owner? Not buying it.
- Those women who played Elvira's friends though. Ugh.

But the second half was good. I enjoyed it.

Now, my problem.

Why do they always portray these wives of these wealthy men as clueless women who only know how to spend money but have no idea where the money comes from? Many times they don't even know that the company is facing bankruptcy.

Is this a realistic portrayal of what is like to be married to a rich man in Nigeria? What if the man dies or falls sick?

Please, enlighten me.
