STOP WASTAGES, GROUP CHARGES KWARA GOVERNOR.

The People's Voice's attention has been drawn to the front page story of the National Pilot Newspaper dated on 24th of October on the extravagant spendings of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq led administration on the alleged purchase of 2 bullet proof vehicles for the outrageous sum of ₦480 Millions in this harsh economic period.

According to the statement of the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the group, Abdulraheem Olaitan Kehinde, he said it is quite shocking reading that a man whom an average kwaran begins to think that his simplicity is second to none could embark on extravagant adventure in the face of uncertainties hitting the state economy. So sad that it is coming at a time when the people of Kwara State are battling with high inflation due to the mismanagement of the country's fiscal and monetary policies. This sudden switch of His Excellency from his adopted ostentatious lifestyle to a flabouyant lifestyle further established the popular view of the people on the street that the Governor is only acting a poorly drafted script of a man who takes life simple.

"We expect to see someone whose knowledge of governance came from his extensive background fieldwork in the parts of the state prior election period and follow its closely in order to make a great developmental stories out of it. But the case here is quite otherwise as what we are seeing here in Kwara is a Governor who is still rehearsing his script when others have already swang to actions. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is a perfect close example of the exemplary Governor who is also a first timer like Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara State.

"In addition, while this APC administration have failed to honour their promises of clearing the salary arrears of local government and SUBEB teachers as promised by them during electioneering campaigns, it is pertinent to urge the government to embark on costs cutting measures and not adding to the cost of governance as depicted by this act of unwise and frivolous spendings on automobiles.

"The moment has come for Kwarans to start asking the proper questions and draw the right inferences about what the governor is doing with our treasury. More reason why we are imploring tthe government under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq to end the secrecy by publicly updating Kwarans on the state IGR and make the FAAC allocations coming to Kwara State open to all and sundry so that we can monitor how funds are utilised for the benefit of the people of Kwara State. That, we believe, is not too much to ask.

"Again, we might need to remind ourselves that this APC led government came into power with the mantra of change which we have yet to see an inch of this in their undertaken so far. Yes, we understand that the present government is new in the system and will need some time to plan its programmes before proper implementation. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has no two heads yet he his developmental blueprint are in the public domain practically taking effect. If we watch and allow a man to spend months rehearsing madness, when is he going to take to street and put it into action?

"Maybe the government needs someone to tell them that the political honeymoon is over as Kwarans are earnestly waiting to see real performance in terms of improvement in infrastructures, clearing of backlog of salaries owed workers and not blame game as it has been witnessed in government circle of recent.

"Our concern, as a group, is to see a new Kwara where justice, equity, transparency, accountability and fairness will be the watchwords of governance.
