the 'Marina' was practically recreated.

Obalende, down to Dodan Barracks was really water and swamp.

Every Lagos governor is adjudged to be a performer. Even with her resources, Lagos is not upto Nairobi how much more of Cairo, Johannesburg, Cape Town etc. Audio performers!

Same reclamation was done in Lekki and currently on going at the Eko Atlantic City. Little wonder experts say Lagos is one of the cities in world that will be submerged in the ocean by 2050 if adequate precautions are not taken. Already floods are annually showing us sign of what may ultimately and unfortunately be the destiny of our dear Lagos.

Amsterdam is way much more below sea-level than Lagos, but remains thriving...
Climate change will affect all coastal settlements, but the difference will be the use of technology.

That's awesome! You're right about those Lagos Island reclamations from swamps.

This is similar to what we have in the Florida area in the U.S. where land
is reclaimed from swamps for new housing projects.

The first picture below is a 1929 aerial view of the race course on Eko (Lagos) Island, and to the lower left is Victoria Island. In 1948, land was purchased from the Oniru ruling house by the Lagos colonial development authority to develop Iruland (otherwise known as Victoria Island) and the land owners or indigenes were resettled at Maroko on the eastern side of the
island.

In July 1990, Maroko was forcibly demolished on the orders of
the Lagos State military governor Raji Rasaki because it had become a slum, it was below sea level and often got flooded. What is today known as Victoria Island Extension, and Lekki
Phase 1 [on the Lekki Peninsula] used to be parts of the
sprawling Maroko!

The Bar beach area was where the original settlement of the
Yoruba indigenes of Victoria Island was located.
