This is the plain truth.
But how does the government respond is the problem. The people should use social media as a weapon to document the mayhem the govt will unleash against her people for the love of power..

Shehuyinka:
THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says there has been mobilisation of thugs from within Kogi and Bayelsa states ahead of governorship elections fixed for November 16.

“We are also concerned that thugs have been mobilised from within and outside the States with the aim of either influencing the elections or disrupting the process on behalf of partisan sponsors,” said Mahmood Yakub, INEC chairman on Friday at a meeting with Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) held at INEC Headquarters, Abuja.

Yakubu noted that “There are already warning signals in the two states,” adding that “Both are politically volatile. Elections have been severally disrupted by violence in the past.”

A total of 46 candidates are contesting in the Kogi State election, according to a final list of candidates published by INEC on its official website. There are 90 candidates contesting in the Bayelsa governorship election.

The INEC chairman disclosed that a risk assessment by the Commission has already identified some flash points.

“Our own risk assessment which will be shared with the security agencies at this meeting has identified some flash points,” he said.

“This calls for a robust response before the elections, on Election Day and during the process of collation and declaration of results.”

He emphasised that Nigerians expect that by now the nation has learnt enough lessons from previous elections to ensure a swift security response to the increasing desperation by political actors to disrupt elections and subvert the will of the electorate.

“If that happens, many Nigerians will blame the electoral umpire and the security agencies. We must continue to rise to this challenge,” Yakubu said.

He however expressed optimism in the ability of the security agencies to provide adequate security during the elections.

“We are equally confident that with the sheer number of personnel the security agencies are deploying in the two states, there can be no excuse for the processes to be undermined by anti-democratic elements,” he said.

Thuggery has always been a part of Nigeria 's elections.

Politicians from across the divide be it PDP, Apc, Apga, Labour, etc use it to perpertuate electorial fraud.

Their thugs maim the opposition,

It is the same youth that they are frustrating because they are engaging in yahoo yahoo that they are going to use to win election by fire or by force.

This is the realities in Nigeria.

I read that in past elections in Kogi State, thugs were lynched by voters and killed on the spot. I guess same treated will be repeated.

Thuggery is now an inferior option for electoral victories, the real Jocker for victory is manipulation by security forces at apex collation centres. They perfected that option in the Feb 2019 presidential election.
Nigeria is joking with destruction. Many see this like some fun or political smartness , for a most grievous crime of subjugation, suppression and subversion of the people's right to Instal leadership of their choice. In the fullness and maturation of time this nation shall weep blood and soak the bitter garri of national affliction for their reckless iniquities

Instead of INEC to request for soldiers they are crying, didn’t they know there will be thugs in those states b4? Apc will have thugs and Pdp May have also.

This Inec and government are not proactive at all.

No, they don't.

When thugs are threatening the life of a local INEC official, what do you expect the guy to do?? Be a hero?

You Nigerians need to want and desire free and fair elections. Till then, the thuggery and so on will continue.
. What stops inec from cancelling any election marred by violence if they truely want to be neutral. they are part of the thuggery like they did in osun and kano so mahmood shut up.

Well, if they cancelled it, the big polticans will just bide their time till the rescheduled date...and then unleash the thugs again

Plus, many of the thugs come from within the communites, and are backed by the local people.

Hence, you Nigerians have to actually be convinced that it is benefical for you people to have free and fair elections before all this thuggery stops. Because most Nigerians see polticans as a means to chop money, not as a means for actual development.

The best thing at this point is to give a free-hand to all the parties involved to bring in many thugs they can bring. Although anarchy will loom but at d end of d day, cancel d election. Conduct it again but at ds point (which of course u could have identified all d thousand thugs) arrest all d thugs, conduct d election again then free d thugs afterward.

. I still insist that inec has the power to stop election tuggery, but first of all they should demand full independence and be allowed to elect their chairman and not by appoinment from the president.
