Should I Study Medicine by Conners(m): 12:44pm On Nov 02, 2019 |
I'll start by saying I don't have passion for anything except to make money in life. And I believe I can achieve anything if I set my mind and time to it. We are in Nigeria and we all know graduating well with medicine is like a 50% assurance of getting a well paying job to live comfortably. So my question now is, should I go for it or I should just look for another course to study? |

I don't know "graduating well with medicine is like a 50% assurance of getting a well paying job to live comfortably"! Are you sure your stats are correct and you haven't included some who did not graduate well? Please send me their details so I can get them employed in Vietnam, if not UK, so they can get paid reasonably well and live relatively comfortably. There's a thread here somewhere lamenting that doctors get paid more than every other profession. I suggest you look for it and read. Most graduates in medicine I know have 100% well paid jobs and live comfortably because they are in demand all over the earth! As for your question, I don't think you should study meducine until you get your stats right as there's no point investing in such strenous education on a 50% chance of getting a well paid job. Perhaps try nursing, or become a physio, first. Here's a couple of threads that might help you decide, and good luck. https://www.nairaland.com/5489784/medical-school-experience-fighting-spirit/4#83438186 https://www.nairaland.com/1049407/medical-students-aspirants-thread#12193318 |

budaatum:I meant in Nigeria here, getting a job after graduation is not always guaranteed no matter the course you study. And thanks for ur advice and links,I'll definitely check them |

Conners: This is a wrong motive for wishing to study medicine. If you're only motivated by the money the profession has to offer, believe me you may shocked to your marrows when the reality of med school dawns on you. 3 Likes |

If you're aspiring to study medicine just for the money pls Biko for your sanity just don't do it.if it's money you want go for any engineering course, try and graduate with a second class upper at least and learn some skills with computer like programming.by the grace of God with this ehn, money will be rushing you. Better still you can use the money you intend to use for going to school to start business, money will still rush you, then you can go back to school Medical school will just frustrate you to the point of depression, especially if it's in Nigeria you're studying medicine. 1 Like |

deltateam: To be truely successful in any endeavor your motivation and conviction must be beyond the monetary packages. That is passion! The common parlance is that people go over to school not to acquire knowledge and be innovative in thinking, inorder to solve human problems; but to secure a "dream job" and fat monthly salary. When the realities of such motives become blurred after school, they end up regretting their decision to study a certain course and start tagging school as scam. Besides, will you be comfortable to receive treatment from someone whose major interest is the dept and size of your pocket? |
