In his introductory speech, HRH Eze N. Nwokwa, told Prof. Nwajiuba that they were there first and foremost to redeem the pledge of N30, 000 they made during the commissioning of Faculty of Agriculture. The monarch went to eulogize VC for the good work he is doing in the university and the massive transformation going on in the campus, saying his type is rare to come by. He however requested VC to consider Ikwo indigenes for employment and admission into the university, as they are landlords and part of the university. HRH Eze Dominic Aloh, added his voice in thanking Prof. Nwajiuba for his commitment especially for attracting the Solar Energy plant which has brought 24 hour uninterrupted power supply in the university, pointing out that “praise singing is not a bad thing for someone who has done a great thing”.

Mr. Cornelius Offia, Manager, AE-FUNAI Micro Finance Bank, an indigene of Ikwo, who was called by VC to give update on admission reservation for Ikwo indigenes averred that Ikwo community has always been given sufficient chances to study in the university. He told the traditional rulers that 45 slots were reserved for Ikwo candidates for 2019/2020 admission out of which only 24 who met the required criteria have been offered admission with 22 chances yet to be taken.

The Vice-Chancellor, thanked the traditional rulers for their kind words and show of ‘love’. He stated that whatever is possible would be done to engage Ikwo people as staffers in the institution even in the face of growing unemployment rate in the country. “We will continue to employ as God gives the opportunity to accommodate as many as possible”, he said. Prof. Nwajiuba appealed to the traditional rulers to advise their people to desist from stealing and destroying university farm produce. Handing the donation to Dr. Mrs. Tina Igberi, Former Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, VC urged them to put the amount into proper use in the faculty.
