Kogi Election: Police IG Deploys Additional 35,000 Police officers by Johnwicky(m): 10:21pm On Nov 06, 2019 |
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, has deployed additional 35,000 policemen to Kogi State to ensure “visibility policing ” of lives and property before and during the November 16 governorship election holding in the state. Kayode Ayilara, the Assistant Commissioner of police in charge of operation in the state announced this in Lokoja on Wednesday, NAN reports. The police chief disclosed this while responding to concern raised about the neutrality of the police in the coming election at an event organised by a non-governmental organisation, ‘Search For Common Ground’. He said that the deployed policemen will arrive the state on Nov. 11, saying that they are coming from Abuja and other states. Ayilara said that armed policemen will also be positioned at identified strategic areas in the state to ensure quick response to any emergency. He said that four policemen will be deployed to each of the 2,548 polling units in the state, assuring citizens of police neutrality in their conduct before and during the election. An official of the NGO, Mrs Lola Memedu, had earlier in a presentation, expressed worry over the steady rise in tension in the state ahead of the election. Memedu said that the group through its Electoral Empowerment of Civil Society Project (EECSP), had observed cases of violence and physical attacks between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “Series of attacks have been recorded during campaign rallies and party activities. “Dekina and Ankpa Local Governments have recorded the highest number of violence attacks among party members and supporters. “For example, on the 19th of Oct, 2019 a party supporter was shot dead in Anyingba during one of the political party rallies. “The number of death recorded in Anyingba and Ankpa communities is quite alarming. “There has been a rise in the use of political thugs to perpetrate violence, as this was recorded in Dekina, Ankpa, Olamaboro, Omala, and Idah Local Government Areas,” she said. According to Memedu, the objective of the report is to identify potential threats to peaceful election at the pre-and post-election stages. This, she said, will facilitate an early response by stakeholders like the Police, INEC and the National Orientation Agency with the intention of intervening to prevent violence. The group also urged the media to report issues relating to the process, conduct and outcome of the election objectively to douse tension and prevent violence. https://thenationonlineng.net/igp-deploys-35000-policemen-in-kogi/amp/

Pot-bellied illiterate, the IG is a funny man; same man who can not handle his marital issues deploying terrorists in uniforms in kogi state to guide politicians interests. |

Imagine the grammar this dunce is speaking 'visibility policing'. The IGP should go and sit down. Even if he like he should deployed the entire police in the country. Killings and maiming will never stop. He was there fortnight when Yaya Bello and co promised to win this election by all means. Is that not a real threat? What did the entire system do? We are waiting to see his magic on Saturday. We all know what the outcome will be. |

Is it abt deploying thousand of police or giving the electorate free hand to choose their leader. I pray the police will be neutral on the election day. |

It will still be rigged in favour of Yaya Bello.. I'm not a party guy, I stand for good governance. Yaya Bello does not deserve to be back and can not be back if the election isn't rigged. The igala/okun nation will vote for Wada. You can not joke with the igala people. 3 Likes |

Jestin:keep on looking for people to kill in your stupid elections. Go and warn the touts you breed in your homes to stop causing problems during election, instead you blame the innocent policeman that is trying to save his head from your kinsmen. |

So, in total...about 50k policemen are deployed to a state for only elections. That is.. deploying 1/7 of the entire police force in Nigeria to just 1 state, not for a state of emergency nor to stop insecurity but to supervise elections. Totally absurd 1 Like |
