yes, but parents are to blame as well, parents used to care about where their kids are getting money from b4, now nobody cares anymore, just bring money, omo to mowo dele, lobi a yin. Even the girls are much mannerless nowadays, they force many guys into bad decisions to get money.
because of hunger in the land....life is getting difficult and alot of ppl that are even working cannot afford basic life so parents do not care anymore

Even EFCC officials sef dey blow. A forensic study of their financial records and assets will reveal a lot. Magu should never be able to own more than one house based on government salaries.

Worry not so much about the ageing corrupt politicians. Nature has a way of taking care of them for death is a debt that everyone must pay.

But when these terrible, corrupt politicians die off as a result of old age, who are we going to replace them with?

Worry more about the young cyber criminals (aka Yahoo boys) and other criminally minded youths because there is no limit to the damage they can do with their I'll gotten wealth; some of them would become politicians and get into elective offices and other key positions. Some of them will set up public quoted companies with the intention of swindling their shareholders. Some of them will get themselves into the country's police force, army or dss.

The consequences of not taming 419s in the 90s are what we are living with today.

I BLAME NOT THE GOVERNMENT FOR THE RECENT INCREASE IN CRIME AND ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES IN NIGERIA. THE GOVERNMENT ALL OVER THE WORLD NEVER HAS THE INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE AT MIND.

WHO DO I BLAME? THE RELIGIOUS BODIES. A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THE POPULACE HAS AN AFFILIATION TO A RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION. ON FRIDAYS OUR MUSLIMS BROTHERS GO TO MOSQUES IN THE SAME VEIN, THE CHRISTIANS ON SUNDAY DO CHURCH.

OUR RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS IN RECENT HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT PROSPERITY WITHOUT WORKING, SUCCESS WITHOUT SACRIFICE, WHICH IS IN SHARP CONTRAST FROM THE TEACHINGS OF CHRIST OR MOHAMMED.

AS LONG YOU BRING IN MONEY TO INTO THE COFFERS OF THE RELIGIOUS BODIES; YOU'RE BLESSED; WHICHEVER WAY YOU GET THE MONEY ISN'T THE ISSUE TO BE GIVING A THOUGHT.

Funny thing is this supposed luxury life yahoo boys are said to be living is even basic.

I see pictures of them with their 2004 model cars when arrested, and it gets tagged "luxurious vehicle".
Youths in their early twenties aquire even latest models of these cars doing basic jobs in western countries
As far as I'm concerned, this is an absolute disgrace on this nation and continent.
The most worrisome thing is the Geriatric Politicians, don't even care in the slightest.
.

We have a crisis in our hands in a country where a bag of rice is very close to the minimum wage, not to talk about rent etc.

Grow, but youths can't even get a job after graduation. I doubt they have even checked the latest unemployment rates.
Even when you learn a skill, who has the money to patronise you? Well yahoo boys are unsurprisingly big employers of labor nowadays.

Just walking through the streets moves me to nearly crying sometimes. People are suffering terribly, but our out of touch politicians obviously do not understand, afterall, they grew up during Nigeria's good era, and have been in luxury for too long.

My advice to students is to study hard, try to get a first class if possible, or a 2.1 at least, and apply for scholarships abroad.
Yes, leave! We currently don't have the framework or foundation to be great as a nation right now.

We should ideally strive to revolt, but diabolically, the masses are contented with the status quo.

Nature does not take care of anything.
Nigeria is covertly aristocratic. They groom their children or wards to replace them.

Just look at how many politicians have their kids in the Senate and House of Reps right now.

This country is draining to even think about.
It all originates from our loveless nature at the end of the day though.

It is because we do not have a system that truly punish crime without been selective.
If a politician steal and he is sentence to death or 50 years jail term and the rest politicians see that you cannot enjoy your loot after stealing, what do you think they will do? In US for instance if you park wrongly they will tow ur car and you will pay fine for every day the car stays at their office. So automatically you will see ppl trying to avoid parking wrongly. If you bypass electricity and you are caught you pay heavily and can even do jail time..so automatically you see ppl avoiding bypass... If you disobey traffic laws and you are caught you pay heavily so you see ppl trying to obey the laws... The next time you visit the country you see everybody trying to avoid breaking the law.

I agree with you.

For traffic and bye pass of electricity, people are being punished for that....albeit, enforcement is still very poor, especially because, most of us, are either also culpable for these things or unwilling to report offenders. There is also the challenge of authorities collecting bribes from offenders instead of penalising them.

On corruption too, it's the same. People are being punished. We have two former governors and a good number of public officers in jail or facing trials for corruption.

Like I mentioned, I agree with you. Punitive measures need to get stricter along with enforcement. We need to get more serious.

However, by and large, the most fundamental institutions for addressing moral bankruptcy and decadence in the society remain the family, community, religious organization and school.

They have their jobs cut out for them, and they simply have to start doing more. If we fix these institutions, certainly their products would thereafter, go on to fix leadership in our country.

Very good point. 30k is very small but more than a dollar a day. They govt is the corrupt ones.

Why can't the government create jobs of $600 ie ₦200k every month. What can ₦30k do for you in Nigeria, feeding alone will gulp that money in a month depending on where you live sha, but major cities in Nigeria that money is insignificant.

Coz they’ve looted most parts of it.

First of all government is in the business of creating jobs. In a country like the US the government claim credit when the unemployment % drops in fact it is widely use in campaigns, unlike in Nigeria when you know you just have to rig elections without having nothing to show. You can equally buy the judges in the court to uphold your rigging... Crime is crime it doesn't matter who commits the crime. You cannot come and tell the youth crime doesn't pay when we have ppl that have looted the country and still looting the country walk freely and enjoy their loot. The greedy politicians are thriving because Nigerian is too soft for them trust me if the ppl are ready to stand up to politicians the way they do in outside country most of them will run. If only you can channel this hate and energy to the ones who are stealing the future of every Nigerians. It is morally wrong to be selective when fighting crime. In your post it is clear you don't have problems with looting politicians but yahoo boys.

Well said!

While your points seems valid, I want you to understand that every cause has an effect. if one sees his parents following the norms all their lives and the system ensures that the just don't get anywhere, while politicians steals in billions and are being celebrated, why will you want to follow the path of your parents?

if you are a soldier or a police man and you see older colleagues who have retired begging for their retirement package while some died in the process, and somebody somewhere steals their money with a smile, wouldn't you think twice?

If you finished in your department as the best graduating student and you were given 10k, while someone acts porn on live TV in form of BBNaija and was given 60 million naira, wouldn't you think twice?

If you applied for a job and pass all the requirements but someone who didn't apply got the job, wouldn't you think twice?

I don't do crime. But I don't care about anybody who does (except you end up kidnapping or killing innocent people who are probably hustling for their own needs) unless the system changes.

Somebody finished school at 32 and with 2:2, you shut him out that he cannot get employment. Obviously, he must fill the gap somehow. Somebody is going to school and seeing his brother and some older colleagues who left school when he entered year one roaming the streets. He will automatically connect the dots.

Well said! When ppl are somehow privileged or lucky, they feel everything is black and white and they feel they can judge others just like that. Don’t mind them.
