It was very insensitive of the government to have proposed VAT increment at this time. This would have just made life harder for the average man. I believe that what ever revenue they seek from VAT could be financed from developing a robust luxury tax system. I honestly doubt the government carefully exploited all the instruments available to finance the system, to come up with 7.5% VAT. At this time, equity in tax demands that the very wealthy be taxed...even this should be done carefully as most of them hold the shares of investments keeping this country afloat so it might be unwise to piss them off. Why not tax all those cars valued at 50million, 100million etc? Why not tax private jet owners, jet fuel consumers, expensive jewelry users etc? You want to tax consumers of very basic household items that most could barely afford. 39 Likes 6 Shares |

Why are they rejecting it now? Maybe it was only the file that got to the Reps, unlike the Senators that received the bill with other 'attachments'. 2 Likes |

They're thinking right for the first time. This Government and it's policies are anti people. It's about taking from the masses and giving nothing back in return, only to turn around and share the money amongst themselves and their cronies. From fuel increament, stamp duty, deposit and withdrawal duty, POS charges, and now VAT increase. Yet what the masses get in return is hardship and more hardship. 11 Likes |

Well having read all analysis about the proposed bill, I still find it pertinent to see what the apc lawmakers in the green chamber think about it. However, because these are coming from PDP lawmakers doesn't mean they mean well too. had it been it was them at the No. 1 seat of this country and this bill was proposed they will also defend it while the ApC will oppose it but I just pray the speaker allow robust debate on this and weigh the advantages and disadvantages of it. 2 Likes |

Nice 1.. Vat is supposed to be domiciliary at the state of consumption.. Not milking a portion of the nation with high taste and a mind for prosperity for the sugar cane loving non progressive parts... 7 Likes 1 Share |

dre11: this is what we should be after, u want to implement VAT on goods banned in some states but want the proceeds to be shared there. can't u see that the northerners are truly senseless and greedy. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

LOL.. Inasmuch as I want to say that the senators are on the side of the people, this time, I disagree... Oil prices have been chronically low. Lower than what we need it to be. So, at the end of the day, taxes have to go up....or option B is a BIGGER AND EVEN FATTER LOAN....from Mama IMF. We aren't a rich nation. Corruption , especially from the Senate and Executive, makes it worse. |
