First, I will like to say this is not a judgmental post. That said;

I have watched everyone react to the leaked video tape of an (EX) Babcock student. One thing I noticed is the recurring word- HYPOCRISY. Some also feel the sex was CONSENSUAL, not within the school premises or during session. So, Babcock has no right to EXPEL the student.

It might displease you to know that Babcock as an entity (a going concern), has that right to disassociate themselves from anyone or anything that brings them to DISREPUTE.

Right now it doesn't matter to Babcock the location it took place, if it was consensual- got LEAKED or not. What matters to them is that they are currently being linked to it. That is bad publicity for the school.

I will like to introduce us all to a kind of risk in business - REPUTATIONAL RISK.

Reputation(al) risk is a threat or danger to the good name or standing of a business or entity.

It can occur in the following ways
-Directly, as the result of the actions of the organization itself.
-Indirectly, due to the actions of an employee or employees. In this case, staff and students.
-Tangentially, through other peripheral parties, such as joint venture partners or suppliers.

This risk can quickly spiral into liquidity risk but we won't go into that today. Just know that organizations take it VERY SERIOUSLY.


You say it is not Babcock's business, but this whole matter has been going on and not once has the name of the student been mentioned. Is it Babcock that had sex? The code word has been BABCOCK.

Babcock has been trending on porn sites and social media pages for all the wrong reasons.

We sympathize with the girl for whatever trauma she is going through, but we should also understand Babcock had to do what is best for its reputation and BUSINESS.

-Lets also take a minute to think of what the school is going through. What of the girls in the school? Would they face possible stereotypes as swallowers?

We know it is your personal life, but Igbos have an adage "mad man no get shame, na im people dey shame on im behalf" (paraphrased in English). So, while going about your personal life, think about the people you are associated with - family, friends, work, religious bodies...etc. Your actions goes a long way in affecting them- positively or negatively.

Please, as long as you can be IDENTIFIED and have it directly linked to you, think twice.

But imagine if Babcock came out with a press statement saying they will be taking court actions against people who leaked the video and support the lady in question to justice against those who are using it to shame the lady.

Imagine they say although they hold morals in high regard, they also understand that she did it on holidays and they will make sure they set an example of those who are hiding to cause trouble and shame the woman for something that is not a crime.

Where you are wrong is that a school first and foremost supposed to protect the student and either you like it or not the girl is a victim. She may be stupid but she is a victim and as far as we are concerned, she did not break the rules of the school. Sex between adult outside a school is not a crime, is not like she steal or kill someone. A video meant for there eyes that got leaked is a violation of her privacy. And either you like it or not her action have no effect whatsoever on the school.
And how will you compare school institution, a place for teaching and learning to work place that pays you salary. However, to me personally, i believe that there is a way controversy like dat can be handled, because a child is stupid does not mean, d child should be cut off completely, lot of situation like dat had lead to suicide. Truth be told ,this is quite shameful.

Someone breached their privacy and leaked their sextape in an ugly attempt to blackmail them and you say they deserved to be expelled? An incident that even occured outside the God forsaken school premises? So it's a crime for couples to have a sextape for their own viewing pleasure right? I have no issues with the legality or otherwise of Babcock decision, nor the hypocrisy of it.
I just think the school (our tertiary institutions in general) can do better in solving some of our social vices, religious places avoid you, schools expel you all because an immoral act was committed, if those two institutions can't reshape the one, then such soul might be a nuisance (probably a dangerous one) to those the institution see as morally right.

In other words,Babcock has a business to run and THIS is not good for business..

The school has no right for such action. It's time,we stepped out of this large circle of hypocrisy.

This is just sad, they could have definitely handled the situation better. Expelling the girl isn't the best decision. I mean we really lack human feeling in this country. Yes mistakes were made, I personally feel the exposure of the act online is punishment enough. They could have thrown in a suspension in there too if they are so inclined but expulsion is just wickedness really.

This is something that did not occur on campus and the school wasn't in session. No crimes were committed. According to the law what happened was legal, although stupid but legal all the same. Babcook name was dragged through the mud, but they could have redeemed themselves in a more humane way.

Suspend her if you must but help her too. Give her counselling in this very emotional and depressing period of her life. Help her pick herself up and be better. So much pain, anger, depression and ultimately crimes could be avoided if we only help each other and not push people aside as useless beings. But what do I know.
