The Calabar-Itu Highway project, which was abandoned by the Federal Government, has cut off Akwa Ibom and Cross River states, the NEXT EDITION can authoritatively report today.

Experts insist that the road, which was constructed in the 70s when the two states were under the former South Eastern State, has long expired.

Records show the road was constructed shortly after the Civil War when late Brigadier General Udokaha Esuene served as the military administrator of the erstwhile South Eastern State.

It was built as a Trunk A-4 Highway to link Calabar which was then and still is the state capital to what was then called the Mainland part of the state.
