The attention of the general public should be drawn to a news article published by Daily Trust on November 20, 2019, where the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) claimed to have given the Nigeria Maritime University a whooping sum of 3 billion naira to develop their permanent site at Okerenkoko but they is nothing on ground to show for it.
At this point it is very important for (Prof. Mrs. Maureen Etebu) the vice chancellor of the institution to come out and clear the air about this claim and we hope this won't be like other cases of the school management been led by the vice chancellor, where they run the school as if it is a no man’s business. It should be recalled that on the 16th of July 2019 (Vangaurd, November 12 2019) the vice chancellor riding on the wings of a so called council committee issued out withdrawal of appointment letters to about thirty lecturers that were duly employed via an interview process (bearing in mind that before that date the same council committee had sacked the registrar and the bursar). She then went ahead employing candidates of her family and friends without advertisement or interview and immediately ordered the new school bursar (who she recently employed) to stop the salaries of the affected lecturers and up till today no reason has been given for her actions. These are just but a few abnormalities happening in the Nigeria Maritime University and it seems as if everything is been swept under the carpet.
NUC, ICPC, Ministry of education and other concerned agencies should look into and investigate the happenings in the Nigeria Maritime University as the school is turning into the proverbial Banana Republic under the leadership of the current vice chancellor.
