TWO suspected Boko Haram gunmen shot and killed three people at the Maiduguri Gomari Mosque during Juma’at prayers last Friday.
Stray bullets from the assailants also injured with a 12-year-old who was waiting for his father to pray at the mosque.

The gunmen, who operated on two motorcycles, opened fire on the worshippers with a rifle barely 10 minutes into the prayers.
The startled faithful, including the mosque’s imam, took to their heels in the melee created by the shooting.

Confirming the incident, Borno State Police Spokesman, Lawan Abdullahi, said: “Yes, the suspected Boko Haram armed men have attacked and killed two Muslims at the Gomari Jumat Mosque today (Friday) about 10 minutes into the Friday prayers.
He said the injured child has been rushed to the University Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for treatment.

The two dead Muslims, Abdullahi explained, were shot on the chest and necks.
However, the police chief said: “Our manhunt has yielded results, barely three hours after the killings. Two prime suspects were arrested along with 11 other suspects related to today’s attacks and killings in the area. Immediately we received the distress calls from the mosque on the attacks and killings, the deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations and a team of policemen were drafted to Gomari to cordon off the area to arrest the gunmen who fled on a motorcycle”.

Abdullahi added: “These attacks and killings are taking a different dimension, as the suspects operate in broad daylight, targeting and killing policemen, soldiers and innocent citizens”.
He pledged that the police would clampdown on the Boko Haram sect members who are terrorising the state.
