Breaking News!!! 2020 Budget Suffers Setback In Senate by bowagateglobal: 10:22am On Nov 27, 2019
The passage of the 2020 budget suffers a setback as the committee on appropriations asked for an additional week to present its report on the appropriations bill.

Senator Barau Jibrin, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, told the Senate on Tuesday, November 26, that the report was not yet ready.

The lawmaker asked for more time for the committee to finish the report and make it available on Tuesday, December 3.

The president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, approved the request and said that the report of the budget must be laid “unfailingly” by the committee on the next scheduled date.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cautioned the Nigerian Senate not to surrender its independence to the executive by passing bills and requests without statutory legislative scrutiny and oversights.

The spokesperson for the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Sunday, November 24, said the caution became necessary following the comment credited to the Senate president, Senator Ahmed Lawan, that any request from President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly is good for the nation, even without subjecting such requests to statutory legislative scrutiny.
