School holiday is almost here for students of nursery, primary and secondary schools...and even tertiary level students

Due to the increased activities of criminals and ritualists looking for money to celebrate the Christmas season big time, parents need to be careful about protecting their children.....to avoid stories that touch.

I did a post on how to avoid ritualist hotspot, kidnappers and ritual killers some days ago here on nairaland, i am following it up with one exclusively for parents and their relations.
I hope you find one or two of the information useful. The advise covers little kids and grown ups.

Here are a few ideas to keep in mind about child safety in this critical time:

1.Ensure your child knows your phone numbers, that of the father and the mother
2.Educate your child about predators, kidnappers and ritualists and how they operate this season
3. Some enroll their wards in computer classes, schools or lessons o keep them busy
4.Give the child a phone so you can reach him or her when you are away from home
5. Kpako children like to wander far and play anyhow and anywhere, making it easy to kidnap them...so, train them not to roam the area like small animals, because that is what kidnappers see in children
6.Enrol them in school lesson and ensure they do their assignment daily
7. Call the school or lesson teacher to find out how they are doing
8.Don't send them errands at night
9.If your child is not street smart, don't send them errands to markets, banks, filling station opand other places that may involve public transportation
10.If your child does not know the area or your neighborhood very well....don't send them errands anyhow
11.If your area 'dey hot', as in, kidnappers and criminals are known to frequent the place, teach your kids to always be indoors and always be searching for them
12. Visiting other kids, is not a bad idea....if they are not grown enough, don't let them go by themselves....take them there
13.Teach your child to be wary of strangers, people who try to talk to them, touch them,, give them money or follow them about
14. On no account, should your child be floating outside the apartment from 4pm down....doing what ? Playing? They should in the kitchen doing the dishes, assisting to cook evening meal, getting things done for mommy, reading, watching TV or playing together inside the fenced compound or apartment...not outside in the stdaily. Indoors always.
15. All errands should be done before 6pm.....once it is dark....the parents should go by themselves
16.Allowing your child to go for all night church service by him or herself is a very bad idea....don't accept it. Adolescent children and all those living with you, must be banned from night movement.
17. Watch the items he uses e.g phone, shoes, clothes, bags and others.....if you see your child living big, larger than the money you give him can afford......be curious and find out discretely. If your child is using expensive things you didn't buy for him or her, then, he is getting it from somebody or friends. Those friends can easily lead him or her astray this season.
18.Do not let your child form friendship with an older benefactor... Someone he or she can easily approach when she is broke...visiting the person in the office or at home....it can turn deadly.
19. Teach your little kids to walk in groups when returning home from school and not. walk alone on silent roads, paths or areas
20. Teach them to be observant of people, houses, cars, bikes and activities going on.. They should learn to avoid strangers at all costs
21. Give your children money...daily...pocket money and train them not to be wasteful
22.Have children and daughters in tertiary institutions? Well, remember to always support them reasonably with cash..give them money o...moderately so that bad friends don't show them how to make money via proatitution, cultism/armed robbery and yahoo yahoo.
23. Teach your little kids to know their house address, street name and where dtheir parents work..at least the name of where either the father or mother works
24.. Know your child friends, their parents and address
25.Have your child's friend number, teachers and lecturers numbers.
26.Do not allow your child to sleep away from home and never let them develop the habit of returning home late at night.
27. They should go home straight after closing
28.Should not follow friends to parties, beaches and swimming pools without your permission or consent.
28. Should not be showy or announce his/status as a rich kid from a rich parent.
29.Should move and make friends only with ones.,
30.Are they going out, demand to know where and fix the time for their return. Did they recieve a call? And immediately stepping out? Well...ask where they are going and encourage them to always tell you when they are stepping out or visiting ?

That would be okay for now...find me on twitter on the same ID here on Nairaland. Will be posting more online in the coming days on ways to stay safe in this our beloved Nigeria
