5 HIP HOP INCIDENTS FROM THE 90's THAT WOULD TREND THE INTERNET IF THEY HAD HAPPENED TODAY -

Article By Amechi "Double Six" Okoli

90's hip hop wouldn't be what it was without drama. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for some of those involved in the drama, there wasn't any social media. Nope, all the hip hop news you'd ever hear had to come from Yo! MTV Raps, or The Source Magazine, amongst a few others.

Things have changed, and social media is the ish right now.

So, without wasting any time, I'd like to make a list of my Top 5 Hip Hop Incidents From The 90's That Would Trend The Internet If They Had Happened Today

5. Dr. Dre Assaulting Female Journalist Dee Barnes

In 1990, Dr Dre and his N.W.A crew were at loggerheads with ex member Ice Cube. Cube granted female journalist Dee Barnes an interview in which he dissed Dre.
Well it didn’t end there, Dre ran into Barnes at an event and physically assaulted her. He hit her severally with punches and kicks. He even bashed her head against the wall.
She sued, but they later settled out of court.
If this had happened today, it would’ve been a different story. All the feminists on the internet would come for his head.
It would’ve surely been a trending topic.

4. Nas Pulling A Gun On DJ Envy

Popular radio host, DJ Envy, who co-hosts “The Breakfast Club” radio show narrated his first encounter with rapper Nas in the early 90’s.
As an upcoming DJ, he came across Nas while he was outside a building in a Queens Bridge neighborhood. Nas was seated in his car and he quickly walked up to the rapper with hopes of having him listen to his mixtape. Nas didn’t know who DJ Envy was and being cautious, he pulled out his gun and pointed it at Envy (probably thinking he was about to get robbed)
Luckily, nothing happened. Envy explained himself quickly before Nas could pull the trigger.
That story would’ve made good rounds on the internet if it had happened today.

3. Tupac Shakur Getting Shot 5 Times At Quad Studios

In 1994, Tupac Shakur, who is one of the most influential rappers ever, got shot 5 times at Quad Studios in New York City.
He was at the studio to do a recording session when he and two of his associates were approached by some armed men. Tupac tried to resist getting robbed and one of the armed men proceeded to shoot him 5 times. They also made away with his cash and jewelry.
Tupac, being who he was, would have this story trend the internet for a pretty long time!

2. Notorious B.I.G Getting Shot And Killed In L.A, California

It had been about a year after Tupac had been killed, and this was in the heat of the East coast/West coast beef. Biggie was a major figure in the feud.
He was about completing a radio/club promotional tour when he was shot and killed by an unknown gun man.
This incident happened on the 9th of March 1997, and it marked the death of the two major players in the coastal war. It also marked the gradual end of the beef, as other rappers involved opted to go for peace.

1. Tupac Shakur Being Shot And Killed In Las Vegas After Watching A Mike Tyson Fight

In 1996, Tupac Shakur and label C.E.O Suge Knight had just finished watching a Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were driving in Suge's BMW when a vehicle pulled up beside them at an intersection and one of the men in the car opened fire on Tupac. Suge was also hit but wasn’t killed.
The murder is unsolved till this day.
