How To Bring Your Pet To Turkey? by mohtan: 1:44pm On Dec 02, 2019
You want to go to Turkey but no way to leave your pet on the tarmac? Here is some information that may be useful beforehand.
First of all, beware that you will not be able to travel with more than two companions per person. Beyond this limit, any transport takes commercial value in the eyes of Turkey and you will, therefore, have to submit to more draconian rules than those which we will enunciate below.
In recent years, Turkey has adopted most of the European Union's animal health rules; also any animal to be accepted must:

1. Have a look at the vet before the big departure:

First, the animal must have been checked by a veterinarian less than 96 hours before leaving for Turkish territory. The latter must have certified by a written document that the animal is in good health and does not carry any contagious disease or any infectious germ. This document will be requested upon arrival at the airport, port or border.
Regarding dogs, any canine must be up to date in his vaccines against hepatitis, leptospirosis, canine parvovirus, distemper, and rabies of course. The anti-rabies treatment must have been given to him at least one month before the trip besides if you are travelling to Turkey in winter, don't forget to bring dog outfits, clothes, sweaters, collars, or any helpful dog accessories, since the winter could be a bit harsh for your fragile home dog there.
Cats traveling to Turkey must be more than four months old and must be vaccinated against viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia, and rabies (same condition as dogs for the last booster).

2. Have the right documents:

Your pet is perfectly healthy and healthy, you now need documents to be able to identify him. Because even if Turkey does not yet ask for ID to travel, some papers are still necessary to pass customs and veterinary control. Among them: the photocopy of the passport of the owner of the animal, the certificate of vaccination and the health certificate issued by the veterinarian (see point above). Without this, it is the quarantine area insured for your pet.
PLUS: If you have a European passport, you are advised to take it to simplify your arrival. Finally, even if the Turkish administration does not insist on this point, it is recommended that any animal traveling across the borders can be identified thanks to an ISO chip (compulsory since 2011 for all trips across the European Union). Some animal transporters do not tolerate animals without this one.
Now if your pet is traveling without you, you will also need an import permit - which can only be issued by the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Without this, he will be refused.
3. Have the right to travel:

You have gathered all these documents, you are ready to fly with your quadruped in the luggage, be careful, make sure that your animal is tolerated on Turkish territory. Indeed, Turkey does not tolerate so-called "dangerous" dogs, ie Pitbulls, and tosas for example. If this is not your case, take the time to contact your travel company to make sure you make arrangements (the purchase of a mandatory cage or not).
You are now ready to reach Turkey and the customs post. Ultimate test (sometimes very long) before enjoying the country. In this regard, plan cash as a sum may be required when passing your pet.
4. To be able to return to France (or to another country of the European Union except for Ireland, Great Britain):

To return home with your pet, the papers and conditions stated above are sufficient.
Now if you want to bring back a dog, cat or ferret bought on the spot, make sure to fulfill the criteria stated above as well as those specific to the European Union, namely:
- Three months before the return, have a serum titration of your animal's anti-rabies antibodies done in an approved laboratory (list of laboratories).
- The animal must be chipped or tattooed and accompanied by a health certificate issued by an official Turkish veterinarian.
Without these conditions, remember that bringing an animal back to Europe is an offense punishable by three years' imprisonment and a fine. The animal will be returned to his country of origin, at the expense of the owner, or he will be quarantined or euthanized.
