Kaduna state Governor Mallam Nasir el-Rufai has said his government has traced some violent,aggrieved Fulani to their countries and paid them to stop the killings of Southern Kaduna natives and the destruction of their communities saying that the renewed violence is carried out by bandits.

El-Rufai made this known while fielding questions from some select Journalists in his office in Kaduna.

He said: “For southern Kaduna, we didn’t understand what was going on and we decided to set up a committee under Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (rtd) to find out what was going on there. What was established was that the root of the problem has a history starting from the 2011 post election violence.

“Fulani herdsmen from across Africa bring their cattle down towards Middle Belt and Southern Nigeria. The moment the rains starts around March, April, they start moving them up to go back to their various communities and countries.

“Unfortunately, it was when they were moving up with their cattle across Southern Kaduna that the elections of 2011 took place and the crisis trapped some of them.

“Some of them were from Niger, Cameroon, Chad, Mali and Senegal. Fulanis are in 14 African countries and they traverse this country with the cattle.“So many of these people were killed, cattle lost and they organised themselves and came back to revenge.

“So a lot of what was happening in Southern Kaduna was actually from outside Nigeria. We got a hint that the late Governor Patrick Yakowa got this information and he sent someone to go round some of these Fulani communities, but of course after he died, the whole thing stopped. That is what we inherited. But the Agwai committee established that.

“We took certain steps. We got a group of people that were going round trying to trace some of these people in Cameroon, Niger republic and so on to tell them that there is a new governor who is Fulani like them and has no problem paying compensations for lives lost and he is begging them to stop killing.“In most of the communities, once that appeal was made to them, they said they have forgiven

.There are one or two that asked for monetary compensation. They said they have forgiven the death of human beings, but want compensation for cattle. We said no problem, and we paid some. As recently as two weeks ago, the team went to Niger republic to attend one Fulani gathering that they hold every year with a message from me.

During the Fulani Herdsmen menace, so many people were massacred in Benue State (the linking State between the North & South East).

The killings was a strategy to free up enough space for Jihadists from the Neighboring Countries. This militants will take the South East with full force.

The Herdsmen menace stopped instantly as the Northern States agreed to giveout lands for Ruga Settlements. The biggest Settlement will be situated in the middle belt (Benue).

The space provided for RUGA will be occupied by foreign Jihadist Militants and their families from Neighboring countries like Niger, Mali & Chad.

From Benue, the South Eastern part of the Country will be brought to stand still.
The Militants will be provided with various weapons which will be used to bring the South Eastern part of the Country to full summation.

While their plans is being perfected behind the scene, they assigned online trolls to cause destabilization between the Southwesterners and the Southeasterners. Crazy enough, this trolls are winning, especially the Southeasterners (falling too cheap for the propaganda of Enthnical divide).

Meanwhile, the South Western part of the Country is fully infiltrated by Jihadists who are only waiting for order from their Commander before commencing on menace.

Why will the Government be opting for death as penalty for hate speech? Reality will soon set and they want no one to chip a beep about this demonic agenda.

Yea , we need modern technology to check our borders, there are up to like 50 of which I know here in Taraba that u will not find any security agents there presently, maybe they aware but only allow it for their pockets I don't know...but the closure is premature and not serious one, because we need more technologies maybe like drones patrol to check our borders , else govt will only enriched the smugglers who follows longer route presently and are still very much in the biz with the supports of some member of our security operatives(corruption)

Nigeria is a huge country both in land mass and population, no doubt about it. This however,should never be seen as an excuse for our borders to be porous and unmanned. Is Nigeria any bigger than Brazil,China, Russia ,USA etc ? For your information,South Africa has bigger land mass than Nigeria and they effectively manned their borders even with fewer population.

It is not about the size of the country,but it's about doing the right thing. Nigeria has continually failed to do the right thing concerning her borders. There are millions of illegal immigrants from Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Senegal etc in the north and who have fraudulently become Nigerians. This is made possible by cultural and religious affiliation these people have with the local population. Successive Nigerian governments have refused to address this problem due to lack of political will and other primitive sentiments.

Nigeria is not too big not to be able to effectively control what and who comes in and goes out of its borders. There are several countries with bigger land mass than Nigeria even in Africa here. So it is shameful for us to begin to see that as our excuse. That is not tenable please !

The article proper quotes the senator saying our land borders and waterways are porous and letting in illegal arms. He specifically mentioned; Badagry, Epe, Warri, Patani, Sapele, Port Harcourt, Eket, Oron Lokoja, up to Adamawa & Kebbi inland waterways. He only referred to Potiskum animal market as an example of our porous land borders.

However, the newspaper chose as headline screamer "Norther Borders are Greatest Threat to Nigeria" which is not what the senator said!

How do people choose to do these much harm to their own country? Do you guys hate Nigeria these much? Is the media (social & traditional) wishing for a bloodbath in this country?

Then the country should be fenced round with modern border fence. Don't tell me it's impossible to fence the country. If they can lay oil pipe from South to North through thick forest and rivers, our borders can equally be fenced. The truth is that some of our leaders are benefiting from the porous border so they won't make such proposal. I believe it will be done one day. And until it is done, our fight against insecurity will be a futile effort.
