Today, most cars run on an automatic transmission system. The automatic transmission is easy to use and makes driving more comfortable. But it requires constant care and some sort of pampering.

If you are reckless with your automatic transmission, it will just pack up and you have no car without the transmission. To add to that, most automatic transmission systems are really expensive.

So, here are 4 ways you can show some love to your automatic transmission so that it will serve you well.

1. Stick With the Manufacturer’s Recommended Oil Grade: There are many brands of automatic transmission in the market. But not all of them will serve you well.

If you go through the manual of your car, you will see that the recommended grade of transmission oil is always written down. Stick to it.

Choosing to use the other varieties will not immediately damage your car, but in the long run, it won’t be profitable.

2. Don’t Leave Your Car on “Drive” While Stationed In One Place: Once your car is on a drive, the transmission is alive to perform its duty which is to get the car moving.

So, it only makes sense to move from the drive position if the car stops on traffic. This helps to lift the weight off the transmission and prolongs its lifespan.

This applies to many people driving in a city like Lagos where vehicular traffic is crazy. When you stop in those long stretch of no-movement traffic, show your car’s transmission some love by pulling the gear to the neutral position, or simply turn off the engine instead of staying on the drive with your leg firmly on the brake pad.

3. Avoid Rocking Between Gears If Your Vehicle Becomes Stuck In Mud: This tip is like the one before it. In rainy seasons, with the terrible state of our street roads, it is not entirely out of place to get stuck in the mud.

But don’t be tempted to rock between gears if your vehicle becomes stuck in the mud.

“If you must rock, do so as gently as possible and make sure the wheels have stopped moving before each gear change. This will drastically reduce the strain placed on the transmission,” said auto news platform, mistertransmisison.com.

4. Get Professional Help When Changing Your Fluid: My mechanic once shared a story of a customer who destroyed his car’s transmission by pouring the engine oil into the transmission.

You see, there are several similar fluids that can confuse a novice. To be on the safe side, just get your mechanic to do it. He will probably charge a little sum.

I have heard our brothers here says NO 2 practice is bad for your transmission cos switching between neutral and drive cause clutch to degrade... I do it though cry
