The Buhari Media Organisation has faulted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s assertion that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration took more loans in the last three years than the preceding administrations did in 30 years.

The group said the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections was a co-mixture of “outright lies and conjectures.”

In a statement signed by its chairman, Niyi Akinsiju; and secretary, Cassidy Madueke, the group said Atiku had “a penchant for twisting facts for political expediency.”It cautioned the former Vice President to always check his facts and figures before making them public.

The BMO accused Atiku of hiding under the banner of Prof. Anya O. Anya of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group “to add credibility to a false narrative on the country’s debt profile.”

The statement said, “We are alarmed that a personality of the calibre of a former Vice President would go to the extent of playing up unverified information at a forum like that of a university, even if he owns the institution.

“We recognise that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is still bitter about the 2019 presidential election that he lost fair and square, but he doesn’t have to lie about something as serious as the country’s debt stock.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo once made it clear that the Buhari administration inherited a debt of $63bn from the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“He also said the same thing at a function at the University of Ibadan, where he added that the debt rose to $73bn in 2018, with a meagre $10bn under Buhari’s watch.

“The breakdown presented by Prof. Osinbajo showed that Nigeria’s debt stood at $35bn in 2010, $41bn in 2011, $48bn in 2012, $64bn in 2013 and $67.7bn in 2014; but as at handover, it was $63.8bn.

“Fact-checkers have also cross-checked the position of Vice President Osinbajo on the debt profile, using data from the Debt Management Office and found it to be correct.

“We invite Nigerians to note that President Buhari was not in power when the country’s debt climbed to that level.”

Buhari inherited a national foreign debt of $10.3 billion in June 2015 from the immediate past administration.

-By 30th June 2016, the nation’s loan later rose to $11.3 billion dollars.(..9.2 per cent increase in the National debt of the country).

-By June 2017, Nigeria’s foreign debt grew from $11.3 billion to $15.0(.....33.6 per cent increase compared to the figures in 2016).

-Fast forward to 2018, from the $15.0 billion dollars, the external debt skyrocketed to $22.1( .. 46.8 per cent increase in foreign debt).

-As at the end of the 2nd quarter of 2019, the arguably largest economy in Africa, Nigeria’s external debt increased to $27.2 billion dollars(... 23.0 per cent increase).

-Therefore, between June 30, 2015, and June 30, 2019, spanning the four- year first term of Buhari, the nation’s foreign debt cumulated by 163. 2 per cent.

But the president is set to take in more borrows as a request for a fresh $30 billion has been sent to the Lower and Upper Chambers for approval.

And any reasonable Nigerian needs a sooth- sayer to know that this government is a curse?

And he has been borrowing ever since

From 11Trn to 22Trn, is that not an 100% increase?

And nothing has changed ever since.

Nigeria still lacks power

Nigeria still doesn't have portable water

Nigeria still lacks adequate health facility

The number of poor people has increased astronomically

The number of jobless people have increased

Where did all the money he has been borrowing go to?

Let them divide the money by 200 million people, so we can know how much each one of us should pay

Instead of collecting loans to create jobs, we collect loans to pay salaries

A very daft government leading us since 1960

Meanwhile, Home and Office Furnitures Available

Clear the debts na, shey EFCC has been recovering looted funds
You inherited $63bn and you're not doing anything to clear it, instead you're compounding the debt making it difficult to clear thereby sabotaging our future. You're in your second term and 're still blaming the opposition for your woes and ineptitude.

shocked

Shame on Jonathan, Obasanjo cancelled all of our National Debt (FG) , Yaradua didnt borrow, but Jonathan earned high dollars from crude Oil and left FG debt at $63bn without anything visible like standard guage rail(lagos- ogun- ibadan) or Second Niger Bridge, and New AirPort Terminal

And to the PDP Dunce qouting Nigeria's total debt (internal and external) (36 States + FG) N28trn, you should understand FG only owes $68bn out of that while useless state owes the rest, and it would shock you to know that the state actually owes the FG especially PDP state like Abia who borrowed bail out fund and squandered it while living debt for abians

Is still paining Atiku that he was rejected at the election.

It's better he just go on retirement because he will never be the president of Nigeria
