Good Leadership Promotion Network in collaboration with Sustainable Development Goals Office, Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti has held the Ekiti State Edition of SDGs Spelling Bee Competition. This is the third in the series. The competition had held in Osun and Ondo States. The competition was attended by 14 schools, Shepard International School in Ado-Ekiti clinched the golden trophy while Anglican High School and AUD Grammar School went home with silver and bronze trophies respectively.


The event had strong representation from Ekiti State Government, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs and the Ado-Ekiti Area Education Office were all Present. The Zonal Head of EFCC South-West, Mr Friday Bello was represented by the Deputy Zonal Head Mr Igeleke Bright.


In his speech the Commissioners for Education, Science and Technology, Evang. Folusho Daramola extolled the organisers of the event and encouraged the students to take their studies more seriously. He informed the students that Education is topmost in the agenda of Governor John Kayode Fayemi. Speaking, in a similar vein the SSA to Ekiti State Governor on SDGs encouraged the students’ to be studious and key into the developmental goals of the SDGs.


The Deputy Zonal head of EFCC in his statement urged the students to shun corruption and all its tendencies. He told them that the only way to assure a stable future is if we collectively shunned corruption. He reminded the students that they are the future of tomorrow and that for us to have glittering future they must avoid corruption like a plague.


The National Coordinator of Good Leadership Promotion Mr. Olaniyi Odina, in his Speech which he titled “Together We Can Salvage Nigeria From Its Roots” informed the gathering that the spelling bee competition is a national event, that will take place in every state capital in the country and a regional final will also take place in the six geopolitical zones in the country and a final will happen in Abuja. He called for support from government agencies and corporate brands. He also called for patrons and partnership especially with SDGs offices across the country.


Mr Olasunkanmi Cicero, the Deputy National Coordinator of the NGO and Chairman Planning Committee of the SDGs Spelling Bee Competition thanked the people and government of Ekiti State for their assistance. He also informed the participant that Oyo State is the next state that the competition will hold. He called on good spirited people in Oyo State to come on-board and ensure smooth organising of the Oyo State Edition of the SDGs Spelling Bee Competition.
