So we are in a world were everybody wants to identify with everything. Whatever trends is what everybody follows. Nobody wants to take the time out and ask the right questions, all this trends we are following, how good is it good to us, how does it affect our lifes, culture and mental health, how do we copy it rightly and curtail its excesses. It’s is the reigning thing, so we all just follow.

Social Media

Everyone is doing social media and posting everything there. They post about their lifes, their food, their opinions, thier plans, thier relationships, their personal closet and even intimate photos. We seem to forget that the social media is a place where everyone is watching and taking notes and the internet never forgets. We throw caution to the wind and post anything that pops up in our mind. Years from now, some of the things we say and do on the internet will be used for or against some of us. We are also forgetting that we are opening our lives up for easy profiling and behavioral tracking. How about the data some of these social media platforms collect about us and the exclusive photo rights we give to them? Everyone is doing it, so we join.

Feminism

Ordinarily feminism should benefit everybody. Infact yes! We should all be feminists. It ensures our sisters get what is due to them. No harassment, denial and oppression in the name of “woman”. How have we been using the movement today? Some ladies have rubbished and turned the whole idea into a personal “bitterness against men” movement. Some women have broken thier home all because they want to identify with a movement they do not fully understand. I have met a lot of ladies who see it as means for women to be on top and if the men won’t let them, no relationship. So they remain single, walk about tagging themselves feminists. Everyone is identifying with the movement so they join.

A whole lot of societal ills which we have come to adopt because everyone is doing it. It has been happening for sometime now, so we see it as normal, forgetting that what is wrong is wrong. From defrauding people on the Internet and calling it hustle, to baring our bodies nude in public and calling it fashion, politicians embezzling our commonwealth, we celebrate them and aspire to get public positions to be like them. The list is endless. As far as the society has accepted it, that makes it right, so we join.

That everyone is doing it does not make it right and that it has been happening for a while or a long time now, does not make it good or right. Wrong is wrong no matter how long or how many is into it. It is better to walk alone than to be with a crowd going the wrong direction. Make your own choices and follow your own patterns. Don’t let the society define what your own rights and wrong is. Follow your good conscience and heart.
