We can now see the reason Okorocha is desperate to become President of Nigeria

So that he can have Nigeria under his toe.

But this hospital should be forfeited to Imo state government not the federal government.

The fact that the federal government prosecute the case does not give them the right to claim property at the state level.
If the state really wanted those funds, they should have been the ones to prosecute the case or join the EFCC as co-prosecutors. The federal government cannot spend so much resources in prosecuting a case and later hand the rewards to another party. At worst they are entitled to at least 50% of whatever loot they recover. The state can then be given the remainder.

The fact that he is being charged for corruption and still a serving senator is what baffles me most. It’s a wasted nation Nothing good can come out of it.

I think its better FG retains all d loots. By that indigenes of respective states will learn to elect credible and incorrigible ppl as leaders and also make sure they got no chance to steal or pilfer
I agree. When the FG retains all the loot, state governments who have left the anti corruption fight to the federal government will sit up to start prosecuting their corrupt ex-governors.

This debate started in the time of James Ibori, when the FG seized everything recovered from him instead of giving them to Delta State government.

I thought they had resolved this issue.

The EFCC Act has to be amended because this is wrong; EFCC cannot be seizing recovered state loots because that's another form of corruption.

Perhaps the States should investigate and try their looters so they can recover for the State. Kwara State has been working on how to recover properties from Saraki for instance.

Why not Imo government?

He couldn't have stolen FGs money, if he stole at all.

The properties seized from ex state chief executives should have been given to the states from where they most likely get the loot from.
The judge that ruled on forfeiting of a property that was built with state funds to the FG is a bastard!! Is this not common sense? How can you recover someone else's property and instead of giving it to the rightful owner where it belongs, you turn around and hand it over to another person!? What is the rational?? Is Nigeria not a useless country??

I think it will eventually go to the state government. They should then cede it to the nearest state university teaching hospital.

Because if that sum of money was budgeted to build a state hospital, they will eat more than half and build a mediocre one. Good news for Imo people.

With Federal backing, politicans can ignore state commissions of inquiry.

A good example is Rotimi Amaechi, who ignored the invitation by the Rivers State commission of inquiry set up to probe him.

He didn't appear before it because he's a federal minister. But nobody tries that with the EFCC.

Nigeria is a lawless society.

You guys are not making any sense by defending this blatant corruption by FG. Does states control EFCC? Or the anti corruption bodies? Why would you recover someone's stolen property only to hand it over to another person?? Does it make sense to you?? Do you think these bastards can recover stolen property from any state in the NW, let's say Kano, Kaduna, Katsina etc and hand it over to the FG?? Why is it always stolen properties from the South, especially SE and SS that would be seized and given to Federal government?? Why not return it to the state that rightfully owns it
Is that how to fight corruption, by robing Peter to pay Paul?? Is that not corruption in itself??
The same madness happened in Abia state, now they have come to Imo state, are they saying that no ex governor in the NW ever looted the state Treasury?? If they want to recover stolen properties from the SE they can go ahead please but they must do the right thing by returning it to the rightful owners, period. What nonsense!!!

My only problem with all these convictions and property forfeitures is that they seem to be some kind of orchestrated attempt at cowering all perceived oppositions to some people's presidential ambitions.

If the EFCC are acting in sincerity and with no ulterior motives, then kudos to them. But if they are acting out some prepared scripts, then I must say it's very unfortunate and it'll be back to square one for Nigerians.

Okorocha forfeits state-of-the art hospital to Federal Government

Okorocha, now the property of the Federal Government

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC secured another victory Friday in its campaign against grand corruption in public service as Justice T.G Ringin of a Federal High Court sitting in Owerri, ordered the final forfeiture of a hospital linked to former governor Rochas Okorocha.

Dews of Hope Hospital, located in the heart of Imo capital of Owerri Dews of Hope Hospital is a N1.5 Billion state-of-the-art 200-bed hospital, whose ownership was denied by a former aide to Okorocha.
The forfeiture came a day after the commission secured the conviction and sentencing of former governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State(1999-2007) for money laundering and corruption.

The Commission had on August 22, 2019 secured the interim forfeiture of the Owerri hospital from a vacation Judge, Justice A. T Mohammed of Federal High Court, Port Harcourt.

The application for interim forfeiture was triggered by evidence that the facility may have been acquired through proceeds of illicit activities, as funds from Government House, Owerri were traced to the hospital.

The Commission’s investigation revealed that Dr. Paschal Obi, former Permanent Secretary and Principal Secretary to then Governor Okorocha, now a serving member of the House of Representatives, was a signatory to the accounts.

However, Obi, like members of the board of the hospital, vehemently denied ownership of the medical facility.
The managing director of the hospital on invitation, could not also explain how the hospital was funded.

These developments led the Commission to file for the forfeiture of the property on July 25, 2019 under Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud, and Other Related Offences Act 2006.

In granting the request for the interim forfeiture of the property, the court ordered the anti-graft agency to publish the Order in a national newspaper, which was accordingly complied with in the Nation Newspaper of August 30, 2019 and Leadership Newspaper of September 3,2019 respectively, asking interested parties to show cause why the property should not be forfeited to the federal government within fourteen days from the dates of the publications.

Upon the expiration of the fourteen day notice and with no one showing interest in the hospital, the Commission filed for the final forfeiture of the facility.

The hospital located at the heart of Owerri metropolis, had an adjourning staff and doctor’s quarters.

Welcome development although the people of the south east dont like buhari he should help us jail all the criminal igbo politicians that has made the whole region to lack good basic infrastractures due to massive corruption. He can leave tinibu and other corrupt politicians from other regions if their people dont want them to be prosecuted.

Physical assets like that hospital may be returned to the state government, but stolen funds and companies like SLOK belonging to OUK will be held by the federal government. That's how it works.

That's FG stealing by trick. It is not like we do not know where the money most likely came from. EFFC Act needs to be amended to return looted funds and assets acquired with it to be returned to the rightful owners.

If the state governments want those funds, they should initiate the prosecution of alleged looters. Not sitting down and waiting for the federal government to spend their own resources and after recovering the loot, the states come asking for it. It isn't proper.

Well, we practice a Federal system. EFCC and their resources are under FG control. Remember that FG money still belongs to all of us.

Or is it only Niger Delta oil that is mango tree by the roadside that belongs to everyone. But money FG gets from it should not be used in judicial processes to benefit states? shocked shocked

It is not only EFCC that has the powers to prosecute financial crimes. States can also do it through their offices of attorney-general. They may even decide to set up their own anti-corruption agencies like Kano state has done. Corruption and looting is more endemic in states but they keep mum and refuse to take action because they think it is their son or daughter who stole the funds.

Yes corruption is everywhere but some FG ministries has more budget than some states apart from about 7 states including Lagos. Most states spend nearly 80% of budget on overheads and you think they can afford more underfunded bureaucracy?

Sure, the Kano anti-corruption body HEROICALLY stopped Ghandollar stuffing dollar millions in babariga. grin grin

And you think efcc can probe any ex-governor without collaboration from the sitting governor. Do you hear any ex-governor in good terms with his successor being probed by efcc? The governor's stooge will cover all traces of financial misappropriation. If Rochas had succeeded in imposing his son-in-law on imolites, do you think efcc will seize anything? The recovered loot will finally go back to the state government.

So truly Okorocha dipped his hand in the cookie jar. When we demanded accountability, he and his supporters said we hated him because he is APC member. We only wanted good governance, where it comes from we do not care. Okorocha must go to Jail. Where are the supporters now?
