Similar thing happened two years ago in delta state. The ministry of water resources sent letters to landlords that they should registers their boreholes for registration and to be paying yearly water rate.

The landlord association in my area held a meeting and told everyone to ignore the letters. And told the ministry officials that if them catch any body coming to harass anyone on that subject matter then them go chop beating.

This is the time to protest like Arab Spring. It's a matter of time, we will be taxed for the air we breathe

Common stop that. What earthquake? It's not as simple as that because chances of earthquake depend on local geology like presence of fault line which is not present in this part of the world.

Rather than earthquake, what's possible is land subsidence (i.e. sinking) because removal of water leaves air-spaces within previous water-bearing rocks underground which cause the land to sink since there is no strong underground support offered by hydraulic pressure due to the presence of water. It may also cause sinkholes. Land subsidence is common in some oilfields due to decades of pumping oil plus production water out of the ground.

Olodo the water bed under ground is always replenished. The water u pour away in gutters where do think it goes to? Olodo like u r the ones they deceive to create impuntive laws, like this so called license for boreholes. How many areas or home have portable drinking water supplied by Lagos state water corporation?when they can't provide common water for people, they r trying to destroy the ones Lagosians r using to sustain themselves.

That's not right. Rural settlements always source water from boreholes because it is not economically viable to connect such settlements to main water supply used by cities.

The irony of it all is that drilling borehole for water supply shouldn't be a common thing in a city. It's normal for rural and sub-urban settlements. Back in the days we had running water taps in houses on Lagos Island, and there were public water taps too, where individuals living in houses without taps used to go fetch water. I remember that one can easily connect taps to main underground water pipeline belonging to the city. I saw this on several occasions. Then well was also not common not to talk of boreholes. On our street (Tokunboh St.), I remember one house had a well along a stretch of two blocks I was familiar with. We used to go fetch water from the well if tap water wasn't running. We always had to go far to get water in other wells in the neighborhood, which indicates that open water well was also a rarity back in the days.

Lagos State government has said by the first quarter of next year, it would begin to issue licences and permits before any borehole is drilled for water in any part of the state.

Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, Mrs Funke Femi Adepoju, while addressing stakeholders at a meeting, explained that this move was to safeguard residents of the metropolis.

The meeting was attended by members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), Financial Institutions, Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) and Association of Water Well Drilling Rig Owners Operators among others.

According to her, the exercise, which is to be launched by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is to regulate the process of water abstraction in the state.

Mrs Adepoju affirmed that licensing was a significant process in the regulation of any industry as the commission was determined to ensure its availability and sustainability to prevent the effect on unregulated water abstraction.

“What is paramount to government is how abstraction affects us as a people not just today but the future with emphases on pollution, contamination of water bodies, saline filtration into the system, over-abstraction and unregulated abstraction,” she stated.

While assuring that only registered companies captured in data will be issued a 2-year renewable license with unique and personalized number, the Executive Secretary explained that the commission was not established for a punitive purpose, but rather to establish standard in the water extraction industry in order to ensure that the health and safety of citizens are not compromised.

According to her, the essence of the engagement was to improve the relationship between stakeholders and government by developing ways to sanitize the industry, stressing that the agency has acquired mobile water test kits which are to be used in testing samples during operation and that approval for the acquisition of a standard laboratory for water testing is on the way.

Earth Quake is caused by movement of rocks beneath earth surface,. The Sound from that movement send tremors/vibration from it epicenter. Some magnitude are larger than others, depending on extent of the movement.

That was in the military days of illegality, under the constitution does provision of water fall under social amenities, if yes petition the government to provide water in localities that have town planning for water provision, you don't take the laws into your hands, incase you don't know, there is an excavation law that prohibits you from digging beyond 6 feet, those are the things that the license is meant to cover
