Getting funding for your startup or big idea has always been a big challenge for African Founders. Mark Zuckerberg once said that he might not have built Facebook if he was born and raised in Africa because the gap between opportunity and talent over here is as far as the East is from the West.

The good news is that the internet and innovation has made it very easy to connect to Investors at a blink of an eye. These days you can sit in your rooms, and sending pitch deck to Investors in Silicon Valley. E.g, Jeennali.com is a paid membership platform that allows Founders connect directly to International Investors. From Reid Hoffman, CEO of LinkedIn to every single big Venture Capital or Private Equity investor known locally and internationally.

Do not be among entrepreneurs that think there is no capital. Hell No! Capital is looking for you! You just don't know where to look! Jason Njoku, founder of Iroko TV now known as ROk on Dstv, got their first round of financing from Tiger Global. Tiger Global Invested $1m in Iroko TV in 2011. Nigeria Kobo 360 company raised $36m from international investors earlier this year and all of the contact of these Investors are listed on Jeennali.com.

Before approaching any Investor, First you need to know your idea or start-up well, have a great team members and prepare a great pitch deck. Raising capital is a selling process. Learn to sell your idea in a way no one can refuse.

I want to make the topic as small as possible. I will be posting continuations tomorrow, stay tuned. The series will be on financing your start-up. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
