DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEPARTMENT OF STATE SERVICE (DSS) AND STATE SECURITY SERVICE (SSS)*. Daily Law Tips (Tip 458) by Onyekachi Umah, Esq., LLM. ACIArb(UK) Government agencies are created by law, named by law and must operate by such law and name. The law creating “State Security Service” is known as the National Security Agencies Act, 1986. Clearly by National Security Agencies Act 1986, “State Security Services” is created to detect and prevent crimes within Nigeria that may threaten national security of Nigeria. The name “State Security Services” and the National Security Agencies Act 1986, has not be amended or altered since 1986 to date. Hence, the statutory, legal and known name of State Security Services remains “State Security Services”. One can have nicknames and pet names, however, there is always a known real name. “Department of Security Services” not being known to the law that created “State Security Services” or any other law, can only be said to be a mere pet name/nickname when used by the “State Security Services”. My authorities are sections 1, 2(3) and 8 of National Security Agencies Act 1986. https://learnnigerianlaws.com/index.php/law-tips/512-difference-between-department-of-state-service-dss-and-state-security-service-sss-daily-law-tips-tip-458-by-onyekachi-umah-esq-llm-aciarb-uk

SSS or DSS both are useless-being instrument of state terror & oppresion. Guess IBB had this in mind when he renamed the then equally dreaded National Security Organization(NSO under Lawal Rafindadi during the Buhari's military rule) to another Dracula called State Security Services (SSS). |

They are supposed to be working for the states( citizens of the country) interest and not the presidency interest but it's a different ball game now. |
