Nowenuse: Oga, Yoruba naming Oriki is nothing you will ever experience. We dont acquire names like rest of you Nigerians do. Oriki is quitessential to a Yoruba birth, period! Murtala Muhammed married Yoruba woman and the children have both Fulani and Yoruba names. They are Fulanis through father. There is no Oriki for Muhammed in Yorubaland. Tidy up your thoughts and stop ridiculing yourself over matters you dont know. Like i said before, Oriki is Yoruba, not Nigeria. Gidado has no Oriki. Only a Yoruba with knowledge of history will understand. 3 Likes 1 Share |

PrecisionFx: Correct! And i even said that already. However, a Yoruba with Gidado as surname leaves himself open to queries. Hence why i query the corpers' claim that he is Yoruba. |

PrecisionFx: Thats up to your fellow Ibos to see if your claim is open to question or not. I dont know about Ibo name structure to query that....but i know damn a lot about Yoruba name structure. Beside Oriki I even know the totems. Im not your ordinary Yoruba you guys toss around on social media. You betyer come correct if you want to debate Yoruba with me. You can be Chukwuemeka Vladimir and i wouldnt see anything wrong. But if you are Bolanle Gidado and claim Yoruba ypu will have to explain an Oriki for Gidado. 3 Likes 1 Share |

PrecisionFx: For those uncaring about culture and are looking for foreign names to adopt, true! For conservatives like myself, we have pride in these names and foreign adaptations trying to claim authentic will be stopped and asked to identify. Which is what this is. 1 Like |

Myhusband: Your hatred for Igbo no go kill you, so you want to tell me in all your stay no good thing about them? At least one. Bro I don’t have time to counter your hatred but just know discrimination exists in all tribes just as the Yorubas discrimination against the ijebus when it comes to marriage. Don’t argue this with me. I have my facts . |

BabaRamota1980:I know, but the boy may not know his original roots. By the way, all those with Fulani ancestry in Ilorin, speak fluent Yoruba, even those who are part of the Emir's family. I doubt if any of them can understand Fulbe language. |

CeterisXVII: I know. If UK and US doea not have a border post to check passports as people come in everyone will claim British or American citizen just by saying my name is McMillan Smith and I speak fluent English with zero accent. But inspite of all that they still make you identify. Same thing here. 1 Like |

CeterisXVII: I suspect that he doesnt. You are correct! In Dangote extended family, they have members of their family that speak Yoruba. Some were born and raised in Yorubaland. Language is not the issue. Name and identity is what im questioning. How does a Gidado begin to claim Yoruba? 2 Likes |

Omofranca:Gidado is not a Yoruba name. The person you are referring to must have had some Fulani ancestry, Nupe or Ebira ancestry to have been given the surname Gidado. Try and understand what the thrust of the discussion is all about. Ilorin people for example, have some families with Fulani ancestry, who speak fluent Yoruba. Their family compound will have its history entwined with their Northern forbears. |

maiyee:Which village or town in the Southwest were you posted to? Just curious. Tell us the name of the community and their village head or ruler, too. Because this your story, get as e be. Many Yoruba towns almost worship corpers, because they see them as govt pikin. They appreciate them because some of their schools and hospitals, may not have trained teachers or doctors, if not for the corpers. One of my neighbour's kids who served in a remote village in Ondo state was even given a small chieftaincy title which he rejected, just for his corper activities in that area. The company he served with, constructed a borehole there through his intervention, and the community was so happy, because he supervised the effort. |

Anambralstson: Anambralstson:His mother may be Yoruba. But his father's ancestry is definitely not likely to be Yoruba... What you are doing is like trying to say Rotimi Amaechi is now a Yoruba man!! After all, one of his name's is Yoruba.. |
Re: My Service Year In Anambra - Corper Peter Omoniyi Gidado by CeterisXVII: 8:09pm On Dec 18, 2019 |
imam07:Where??! In which part of Southwestern Nigeria? If you see a man bearing Gidado in the Southwest, his heritage is likely to be mixed. Some people later adopted Islamic or Northern sounding names, due to the influence of Arabic schools they attended, or due to Islamic influence. If you ask for the name of his grand father or great-grandfather', it definitely will NOT be Gidado, if he is a true Yoruba man. And their family compound will not be named Gidado. It will reflect a Yoruba name, like Falade or something else. Even if they want to refer to him, they will say something like "Gidado son of Falade." In Ilorin, you will find families bearing such names like Gidado, but their family ancestry can be easily traced to the Fulanis who came to settle in the town. |
