It is no more news that members of civil society and human rights organizations numbering about 200 met and granted a Press conference in Abuja with the aim of responding to the brazen attacks on human rights and freedom of Press in the Country.

The intervention of 9th December became very necessary after the convener of RevolutionNow and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr Omoyele Sowore was re-arrested in Court by armed officers of the State Security Service (SSS) despite being released under bail.

The coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) have asked Major General Muhammadu Buhari to release Sowore within 14 days or face mass action.

On behalf of the coalition, the convener of Enough is Enough (EIE), Yemi Ademolekun, said the shrinking of the media and civic space calls for concern, adding that there is a need to rise up against any action of the government that will stifle free speech.

While listing five demands, she asked the president to obey all pending court orders and order the release of all those illegally arrested.

Others include: the release of all illegally detained persons by Department of State Services (DSS), abiding by all pending court orders, investigation of the officer who violated protocols and circumstances leading to the second arrest of Omoyele Sowore, and unconditional release of Sowore.

She said if these demands are not met within the time given, they would occupy all the offices of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) nationwide.

The 23rd of December would be the last day of the 14-day ultimatum.

Nigerians are anticipating the showdown and are asking if this would be the real deal or another ''talkshow''.

Indeed he was right, the person who said (quoting from Islamqa.info):

The basic comprehensive principle of sharee’ah
is that it is not permitted to remove an evil by
means of a greater evil; evil must be warded
off by that which will remove it or reduce it.
Warding off evil by means of a greater evil is
not permitted according to the scholarly
consensus (ijmaa’) of the Muslims.

End quote.

Sowore could have been fighting for a good cause but his present predicament is partly his fault.

When you want a revolution, you want to change a system, that's not how you do it. I suppose he should know better judging from his experience in politics.

You don't rebel against a ruler like that. Hardly will any ruler watch such a thing happen without taking action. Most times, it causes great corruption, bloodshed and mischief in the land and what may be lost may even be greater than what you seek to gain of which you may not end up gaining.

That's not how you do it, Sowore. Your method was so wack!!!

don't worry, when Imes comes, he will come and show you how to do it. grin

Imes, we await your coming cheesy
