There is a colossal unemployment crisis in Nigeria and it is weighing a lot of young people down because it seems that there are no jobs. Is it true that there are no jobs? Well let's take a moment to find out.

Nigeria has a manpower shortage of more than 2 million professionals in different industries in Nigeria. Which means that there are positions available but there are no Nigerians to fill them. Due to this reason, lots of expatriates take up simple jobs meant for Nigerians.

Do you know that if you are unemployed in this country, it's totally your fault. Why did you go study microbiology when you could have just gone for a one year training in a certain profession that will liberate you and your generations? Lots of Nigerians study useless courses that are over saturated such that it is almost impossible to earn a decent living without committing huge investments into further education.

I have pointed out the problems and it is my responsibility to proffer a solutions after yarning a lot of dust. I have come to give you a healing balm, that's if you want it. I am going to tell you the most lucrative and unsaturated industry in Nigeria that any smart and hardworking Nigerian can get into.

It's the Oil and Gas Industry coupled with the Shipping industry. Yes, these industries are the cash cows of the Nigerian economy and it is yours for the taking.
Before you start yapping about not having a degree in Petroleum engineering or Chemical engineering, hold on and read more.

These industries require so many personnels that Nigeria does NOT have the capacity to fill them because the youth went ahead to study Mass communication and Accounting. Expatriates who are paid thousands of dollars have to be brought in to operate simple cranes or make simply record logs on oil platforms. Jobs that ordinary Nigerians could do is given to strangers while the youth languish in poverty and untold hardship.

I'll tell you one very simple job that can change your life in a matter of 6 months if you are diligent. This job requires your complete dedication and commitment for you to move on to the next level (not PMB next level o).

The job I am talking about is a Ship Steward. Who is a Ship Steward? A Ship Steward is a person who is supposed to be in charge of organizing and preparing the task of food arrangements. There can be cabin Stewards too, whose main job requirement is to take adequate care of the crew cabin rooms i.e. maintain the general cleanliness of the room and so on and so forth. In other words, a Ship’s Steward is like the housekeeper of the ship and just like a housekeeper’s role in a house, a Steward’s role in the smooth functioning of a ship is indispensable.

The minimum salary of a Ship Steward in Nigeria is ₦150,000.00 per month. Yes, it's that small because Crewing agents have taken the bulk of the money. If you are lucky to be employed directly by a shipping company, then your monthly salary would be nothing less than ₦250,000.00 a month or $700 monthly.

How do I become a Ship Steward?

You are only eligible to work onboard any ship in Nigeria by completing the Basic Safety Training Course STCW 2010 for starters. The cheapest cost for this certificate is ₦150,000. You must possess a discharge booklet, Security Awareness certificate among other requirements that will cost your pocket a whopping ₦500,000.

But this bar is too high for most unemployed Nigerians. This is why I'll show you another cheaper way. You can become a Ship Steward by just obtaining a Food Handlers Medical Certificate which give you passage into employment.
The food handlers certificate cost ₦35,000 but you can arrange it for ₦20,000.

Now the question: how do I get the job? I will provide you with a list of agents and vessel owners in the two main seaports in Nigeria that are looking to crew their vessels. For some serious minded people, I can connect them to a willing vessel HR.

The entry level for this job is very low and you don't have to pay for your feeding and accommodation as everything is taken care by virtue of living on the ship/vessel.
