On Friday, His Excellency, Governor Emeka Ihedioha attended the funeral service of the Late Hon. Tony Okere at his hometown, Obiakpu, in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.

A solemn valedictory session was held for Hon. Tony Okere at the Sam Mbakwe Executive Chambers of Imo State Government House, Owerri, after which his remains made the journey to his Obiakpu country home.

In his commiseration at the interment, Governor Ihedioha bemoaned the untimely death of the Commissioner, describing him as a great friend and ambassador of the rebuild imo project, who spent a large part of his life in service to his fatherland and humanity at large.

Until his demise, Hon. Tony Okere was the Honorable Commissioner for Petroleum & Environment in the Rebuild imo administration.

Hon. Tony Okere began his foray into public service in 1991 as a Supervisor in charge of Education, Finance and Planning in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.

Between 1992 and 1993, Hon. Tony Okere was the Executive Secretary for Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area. He represented Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003.

Hon. Okere went on to become the Sole Administrator, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area in 2004 and Special Adviser to the Governor of Imo State on Niger Delta Affairs between 2010 and 2011.

Hon. Okere's burial ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Gerald Irona; the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Uche Onyeagocha; and other members of the State Executive Council.

Hon. Tony Okere will be fondly remembered for his good humour, dedication and diligence to service.
