Dakuku Dakuku @ 49: An Embodiment Of Excellence by Sosoboy4: 11:57pm On Dec 31, 2019
Dakuku’s life captures interest and inspires hope in more ways than one. His story of steadfastness and loyalty serves as a remarkable lesson to the generation of today, where virtues are declining and vices spiralling; where men and women demonstrate little staying power and steadfastness is considered an unknown culture, this is the generation Dakuku’s life speaks to.

Dakuku Dakuku is a story that must be told, even to generations unborn. It is an account of excellence, patriotism, and steadfastness; one that commands the attention of anyone who reads it.

Born on December 31, 1970, into a middle class family, Dakuku broke jinxes and smashed barriers to place himself on a pedestal. He has evolved into a brand, an enigma and an intellectual force with the Midas touch for making excellence out of nonsense. One of the admired and most followed political leaders, statesman and administrator, Dakuku’s track record of excellence is in a class of its own.

In his early 30s, he was appointed the Caretaker Committee Chairman of his LGA, Opobo/Nkoro, his brilliant performance and unprecedented developmental strides fetched him an award as the most outstanding Caretaker Chairman in Rivers State during Sir Peter Odili’s tenure as Governor.

Dakuku’s sterling performance and admirable focus earned him yet another appointment as a Special Assistant to the Governor on students affairs and later, a Special Assistant on Works. As is typical of Dakuku, he impressed his boss and discharged his duties with aplomb to the admiration of close observers.

After Sir Peter Odili’s administration, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, became Governor and appointed Dakuku his Commissioner for Works – a position that would later oversee the implementation of the major thrust of the Amaechi-led government.

As the Rivers State Commissioner for Works between 2007 and 2011, Dakuku handled many construction projects including roads, bridges and other physical infrastructures. In fact, it is argued that he handled the largest construction portfolio in the entire Country at the time. Prior to becoming a Commissioner, Dakuku had earlier served as the Executive Director of the Development and Leadership Institute.

Obviously, out of sheer industry and competence, he was elected into the House of Representatives to represent Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency in 2011. Having being exposed and armed to the teeth with the requisite skills, tact and experience from previous public engagements, his years in the House were impactful and remarkable.

At the House, he was the Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream). This position placed him in the forefront of activities that regulated the Nation’s number one and largest source of revenue. He also served in other Committees of the House, such as Works, Anti-corruption, Electoral matters, Industry, Communication, and National Ethics and Values.
