Is one thing to buy a car is another to ensure your car is properly registered. You have no excuse for visiting fake people for your car registration. Today I went to inspect a car for a client...He has seen the car and fall in love with it...but something is missing .The story behind the car is ....A senior brother gave it to a younger sister. The young sister now registered the car with a new plate number..Here are the checks I carried out I request for original copies of the car paper including custom papers. I check the VIN number on the wind screen to confirm if is same as the vin on the manufacturer's seal . In the process I discovered that one number was omitted on the car vehicle license...This is a red flag one should not ignore. 1 Like 2 Shares |

That number was intentionally omitted to enable the system recognise a fresh registration for that car. The wise thing to do was to do change of ownership without tampering with the vin . Again, that car was registered 2010....that means to impliment proper change of ownership, one has to pay for every debt incurred by that car ..As a result of this I have to tell my client the honest truth ...to remove his hand from that car. I know I am suppose to make some cash from that car but one's integrity can not be sacrificed for money. I will appreciate people do due deligent on any car they wanna buy to avoid future problem. 6 Likes 1 Share |

This is not rocket science. An affidavit would be required or you go back to the 1st registration. Seller bears the cost of back log. You jst made a client lose a car he was interested in because you aren't familiar with the way to go about it.so far in your write up, the seller was never accused of any hanky panky so its just a simple omission. No big deal. |

woodrow: You are very correct to an extent...I tabled the matter openly to the buyer ...I told him what will be involved if he decides to go ahead. Infact the owner refused the responsibility of taking care of previous debt by the car. That was what actually put him off.....As a matter of policy I do what we call buyer beware and at same time I give my honest opinion cos I don't accept mistake in documentation ....I am not perfect but I Fran at such cos police won't accept your explanation. I believe people should learn how to do things right. Ensure everything tallies on your document . No body can question it. Sometimes people change the engine of there car without swearing affidavit to that effect ....same goes with people that change paint to another paint ...without doing what the law expect them to do. It is your duty to examine everything on your car from vin number to engine number to the colour of your ride....Don't accept error on your document ..Infact, I called a reliable vio officer in front of them all to seek further advice ...he warned me to stay away cos they intentionally omit that number and tender fake custom paper to enable the system admit their r egisteration....That is not an error but an intentional act 4 Likes |

wetdspace: Here is my whatsap number 08062593234 . Is important we play safe. Infact, the most important thing to learn about car business is documentation . If you can understand this, then u won't 've much issues. Any car transaction that involves you, ensure you carry out due deligence in other to be on the safe side. Let me give u this example that happened last year. A fellow car dealer bought a car without due deligence. He resold the car to another person who failed to do due deligence. One day sars traced the vehicle to the new owner and arrested him. They man took them to the car dealer and they arrested him too. Meanwhile , sars said the real owner of that car was robbed at gun point and ever since the incident ...that car has moved from one hand to the other...totally six buyers......all of them arrested. The matter was decided in such a way that the last buyer was made a scapegoat ...cos according to them he is the last destination for the car. He lost his money and the car. The rest paid huge money to bail themselves ....Is important to be proactive ....trouble no good |

showafrica: When you order your car from abroad, you will still need to register it here in nigeria. Your custom paper will 've your c number and chassis number also known as vin number...ensure the vin number on the car manufacturer seal tallies with that on custom paper and also with the number on windscreen....except if windscreen was replaced. Where the error normally start is here in nigeria ...most fraudulent dealer will use a car with fake r egisteration for years before removing plate number to sell as tokunbo...Another issue is when buyers fail to do proper change of ownership. Some will instruct the person helping them to ensure plate number come out quickly without following due process...,in just 3 days ...they man will be giving them fresh plate number and they will ignorantly go home happy untill one day they will be caught. Fresh registration is faster than change of ownership...is better to do the right thing all the time 1 Like |
