Reps to question Sanusi today By Emmanuel Ogala December 6, 2010 01:59AM Members of the House of Representatives will today grill Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the Central Bank Governor, over his insistence that 25.4% of the nation’s overhead cost is spent on the National Assembly. Mr Sanusi was scheduled to appear before the lawmakers on Thursday. The House, however, called off the session midday on Thursday after the CBN governor had waited for about two hours in the office of the Clerk to the National Assembly. Mr Sanusi had arrived at the National Assembly in the morning with a number of files. The previous day, he was grilled by four senate committees where he had an altercation with senators over the validity of his comments that 25.4% of the nation’s overhead cost is spent on the national assembly. Mr. Sanusi stood his ground before the senate, despite attempts to browbeat him to accept the figure was wrong and then apologize. Face a committee The House resolved that rather than have the CBN governor appear before members in plenary, he should be made to appear before a select committee like he did before the senate. The decision to postpone the session and refer the CBN governor to the select was taken after the Leader of the House, Tunde Akogun (PDP, Edo) withdrew his motion that the relevant orders of the standing rules of the House be suspended to have Mr Sanusi admitted into the chambers. Mr. Sanusi is expected to appear before a joint committee comprising the Banking and Currency, Finance, Appropriations and Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes committees. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5650299-146/reps_to_question_sanusi_today_.csp |
