“The Campaign Against Tithing And Donations To Churches Started As A Result Of Flamboyant Lifestyle Of Some Pastors” ~ Rev. Edosa Edobor



The General Overseer of Abundant Life Int’l Church (A.K.A The Overflowing Life Church Inc.) Rev. Edosa Edobor has cited Pastors and Churches flamboyant lifestyle as one of the reasons for the growing campaign against Tithing and donations to Churches.

This was made known in a Statement released exclusively to GreeNewsReporter recently.

The Popular Warri based Cleric cautioned against discouraging financial contributions to support the work of God noting that the Church is overwhelmed with requests from the poor, needy on a daily basis.

The full statement reads;

As far as I know, many Churches are overwhelmed with requests from the poor and needy on a weekly basis – rent, school fees, money to feed, foodstuff, clothes, Christmas rice, delivery kit for pregnant women, assistance for nursing mothers, weekly stipends for unemployed graduate and secondary School leavers especially those who are very active in Church, etc. The Church can only do so much.

Unfortunately, the campaign against tithing and donations to the Church started as a result of flamboyant lifestyle and priority of some Pastors and Churches.

However, it is still not enough for the generalisation as well as the campaign to discourage Financial contributions to the work of God, especially when the campaigners fail to demand good governance from those who manage tax payer’s money – whose primary duty it is to provide infrastructure, social welfare, amongst others.

All in all, contributions to the Church/work of God – offering, tithe, Thanksgiving offering, bazaar, money given to Jehovah's Witnesses, support for full-time missionaries, etc – are all freewill contributions expected to be given out of love for God and love for our fellow brothers and sisters.

2. Outreach

CHURCHing – Fellowship and Discipleship

Outreach – Evangelism and Social/Corporate Impact.


Without the vision, more people will continue to perish largely due to neglect by Government, extreme poverty, unemployment, lack of access to education & quality healthcare, etc. Also, without the people to support financially, materially, intellectually, physically and participate actively as volunteers, the vision will perish.

Lack of funds by Churches, Charity organizations and others can frustrate the vision.

A very important part of the popular Malachi 3:10 is “…that there may be “meat” in mine house…”

Yes, meat – funds – to actualize the vision through fellowship, discipleship, welfare of those in the Church and those that are outside the Church, as well as Evangelism.

That said, to be fair to the Government, they also can only do so much because the challenges of social welfare and infrastructure, especially in third world countries, are very enormous. Hence, Churches, NGOs, donor agencies, charity organizations, Old Students’ Associations, diasporan associations and others see the need to come to the rescue.
