Police issues arrest warrant for Odell Beckham Jr

The New Orleans Police Department has obtained an arrest warrant for Odell Beckham Jr. on a misdemeanor simple battery charge

After the Cleveland Browns wide receiver appeared to slap a security guard’s buttocks late Monday night following LSU’s victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Earlier this week, video surfaced on social media showing Odell Beckham Jr slapping the buttocks of a male Mercedes Benz SuperDome security guard in the LSU locker room.

The alleged incident occurred after the Tigers’ national championship victory over Clemson on Monday in New Orleans.

New Orleans Police released the following statement regarding the situation:

“Today (January 16, 2020), the NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Odell Beckham Jr. (DOB: 11-05-1992) on a charge of misdemeanor simple battery in regards to an incident that occurred on January 13, 2020 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.Inquires regarding obtaining a copy of the arrest warrant should be directed to the Orleans Parish Clerk of Court’s Office.No further information is available at this time.”



New Orleans police department public affairs officer Juan Barnes confirmed that the security guard filed the complaint, according to ESPN’s Jake Trotter. Trotter wrote the following in regards to the arrest warrant:

“Louisiana statute defines simple battery as battery committed without the consent of the victim. Punishment in Louisiana can include a fine of no more than $1,000 and imprisonment for no more than six months, or both.”

The Cleveland Browns issued the following statement regarding the situation:

“We are aware of the incident and have been in touch with Odell and his representatives on the matter. They are cooperating with the proper authorities to appropriately address the situation.”
