“We fought because of our love for our country. That is why at the end of the war, we declared that there was no victor, no vanquished.” This is one of the most imbecilic statements I have ever heard. First of all, Nigeria as a country NEVER had any patriots from its inception to date because the nation was not founded on any guiding and uniting principles rather it was a concoction of the British imagination. As a former leader other than fighting the war in conjunction with mercenaries that killed millions of innocent citizens, what have you ever done for your love of the country to make it better than you found it? The answer is absolutely nothing. All the rulers that came after you definitely have no love for the country otherwise, how could you explain the looting of the nation's treasury by these recalcitrants? Nigerians including their rulers care so much about what they could take from the country and never what they can contribute to making the country great. In Nigeria, it has always been a race as to who can loot the treasury the most. It was a great American president, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who eloquently said, "Ask what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you." This simple but deep statement is seared into the American consciousness and ethos that not only their leaders but ordinary citizens strive to do their utmost best to make the country great and be the envy of the world. So, Mr. Gowon, save us your unpatriotic statement. We know your kind...the ones that love the country in name only but deep down do all they can to bring the country to its knees.

Sunday 10th September 1967, A remarkable day in our state history, During Ojukwu reign of terror, For since the year 1846 That Christian religion was brought to us, Such incident had never occurred.
The day Ojukwu soldiers guarded Calabar streets, To prevent people from going to Church, Disobedient ones were beaten to death, Some soldiers Marched to Churches that held, Drove the worshipper and tore the Bible, The day of grief for men of God, The day I will never forget in this my life.
Yet Ojukwu said he was for us, Yet Ojukwu asked for our support, Yet Ibo race deceived the world, That they are more Christian than any race, Yet they trampled upon God and man, All was there for God to judge.
Ojukwu soldiers were wild as beasts, They were thugs in the Army coats, At gun-points they robbed our goods, At Oron Beach Market many a time, The women returned with wailing tears, Their fishes and grayfish at gun-point were seized.
Many Ibibio market suffered indeed, Obubra markets share the fate, At gun-point they abandoned their goods, Ojukwu soldiers cleared the market, And carried the goods to Iboland, The mighty God was there to see.
They consolidated their positions everywhere, All over our native lands, Calabar water was filled with mines, To break war-ships if they should come.
Calabar air-port was out of use, Mines were buried everywhere, Irons were used the block the way, To prevent planes from landing there.
But 18th October that fateful day, saw all Ibo efforts thwarted and foiled, Calabar was liberated with Ibos fleeing for their life, Gone are they and free are we, From the oppression of lbo race.
Gowon men are wonderful men, Such gallantry l have never seen, Their professional training has placed them on top, They are superb in weapon's control, They are intelligent and swift in the fighting field, Their morale can be measured with exact To the other civilised troops of the world.
You failed to mention that Gowon gave away your own land, the Bakassi peninsula which was part of the current Cross Rivers state to Cameroon in order for them to close their borders to Biafra. I bet you typed these rubbish above praising Gowon and his soldiers because you still have a village to go back to unlike us who has been displaced without any village because of the wicked deeds of Gowon.

Perhaps Gen.Yakubu Chinwa Gowon is still having Deja vu or Stockholm Syndrome. So lets paint the picture for you again sir.
-The core northern blood & power thirsty elements used you as their stooge to hold unto power in the 1966 Nigeria only to consolidate their griphold & shove you aside on 29th July 1975.

-Despite fighting the civil war to force the eastern region back into the Nigerian state even with the progrom and marginalisation up till date, the bastardization of the Nigeria state by these same clique as before the pre-1966 era have only gone from bad to worst.

-The middle belt have remained a slaughter ground with senseless bloodshed & killings, heavy militarization, and ethno-religious & supremacist cleansing.Lt.Gen.TY Danjuma(Rtd) have said enough in that regard.

here we go again he never killed 3 million people most civillian casualties died of hunger and disease largely caused by Ojukwu stoborness,

both sides suffered casualties as both sides used rockets on each others, calabar people even reported killings in their village by biafrans because they refuse to fight for ojuckwu this things are in the libraries and archives you people should read
is not calabar is the old rivers, calabar people where part and parcel of the struggle, nobody forced them ,is a struggle they understand the meaning and they still which biafra comes to reality one day,the ijaw rivers has never been comfortable about it.i believe one day the dream and aspirations of every biafran man will come to pass the death of biafran heroes will be in vain, weather ojuckwu was right or wrong doesn't change anything, their is no unity among us ,no conscious efforts to respect the opinion of others, how do we chart a new nation under this entity?we all should pray 4 disintegration so that some of us that will like to practice Islam will have the opportunity ok.

Only God knows who feed you guys with so much lies and you believe them without doing any research.

Bakassi was part of colonial German Cameroon, after WW1 and Germany lost the war, her colonies in Africa were divided. Cameroon was divided between the British in Nigeria and the French. Bakassi was part of British Cameroon and close to the Nigerian border. Soon Nigerians started to settle around the area, at first there was no problem with Nigeria because British Cameroon was still administered from Nigeria.

After the independence of both territories and the British southern Cameroon decided to be part of Cameroon, that was when the republic of Cameroon decided to take back its territory from Nigeria which they won in court and OBJ gave it back to Cameroon. From your post, you said Gowon gave Bakassi to Cameroon so which Bakassi did OBJ give to them again? I believe you'll just lying that you're from there because if you are, your elders would've told you the history of the area.

Where and how did Gowon get into this? You obviously don't know, you won't ask and neither would you do any research about events aside believing every lie you are told, when Buhari calls Nigerian yoots lazy now, it is people like you that'll start calling him names.

It was an unnecessary war!
Re: Gowon: No Regrets Fighting Civil War by jaxxy(m): 6:09am On Jan 19, 2020
Gowon shud shut up. Even America regrets many wars it fought and even when they understand it was necessary they are most sensitive to those who were devastated by it. That is the difference btwn arrogant gowon and sensible American veterans, Presidents and policy makers.

Gowon this is an arrogant and disgraceful statement, repeated unnecessarily several times only shows ur unrepentant and ignorant heart and disposition.

When will u show sympathy and empathy to those hurt the most by it. Even the Americans are trying to make up for the past war crimes necessary and unnecessary.

No regret.... as long as the Minority Christian North is safe. in one Nigeria, who cares about oyel

Are they safe. Are they not the demographic with the highest ethno-religious casualty rate since 1967. There have been serious conflict and bloodletting in every northern state having a Christian minority from Kebbi to Nasarawa. At peace time the middlebelt has always been a powder keg.

After what he saw in the Biafra Army after Ojuckwu released him from the luxury prison, he was rumoured to help the other side with Intels .. he felt his people where not prepared for war, kids and untrained people were armed all his attempt to reach out to Ojuckwu to persuade him proved abortive as Ojuckwu spared no time in killing anyone against his ideas

So its only right Nigerian Army took his body back for a proper cerimonial burial as he grew up in the North and was close to them

..

Chai, this nseogwu was a baddie, a real nigger and a terrible traitor! He killed his friends who were Muslims yet gowon still forgave him and gave him a befitting burial! Walahi igbos are baad! He grew up in the north, acquired the name of "kaduna", yet he "fixed them all" who said the fulanis are unforgiving! I'm from the SS oo!

Mind you till date the northerner up north can't distinguish between an Igbo man or an ijaw, urhobo or efik man hense the killings were anybody from the south east or south south

Of course Gowon can not say this to any correct outlet he can only spew this crap on BBC Hausa service like the willing slave he was in 1966 and is now. He is proud that he killed 3 million Igbos to preserve a fake country that is today a failed state where his people are being massacred like the Igbos were under him.

Deep down he regrets it terribly just like all the other middle belt soldiers of his generation but he can never admit it

It still doesn't make sense for people claiming revenge to bury and honour the very object of their vengeance

Perhaps if they really liked Nzeogwu they shouldn't have gone around killing Igbo soldiers and people

Another angle:
Does it occur to us that nzeogwu could have been the actual brains behind the present day supremacy exhibited, controlled and enjoyed by the northerners by simply coopting a few fellow igbos to ignite a flame, albeit uncontrollable and to the advantage of the north! Did we read somewhere that he later worked against Biafra and was instrumental to Intel gathering for the north which helped them win the war? Igbos I'm told could sell their mums for a pot of porridge, could this have been one other instance of that worrisome "truth"? (speculation)
If this holds any water, then we don't need to ask why he was so surreptitiously rewarded!
