Across the social media sphere, people keep asking and wondering, what is Vice president Osinbajo’s stance on the security outfit recently inaugurated by the six Southwestern states of Nigeria, WNSN (Western Nigeria Security Network) code name; Operation Amotekun. The first thing that comes to mind is Sir Shina Peters lyrics where he said “Ki lon pe ni founder?” to which the response was “Oludasile”. This simply translates into “what do we call the progenitor?” Answer is “Father”. Amotekun is simply an amalgamation of the different state police of a number of states in order to enjoy not just a cooperation and synergy of efforts, but achieve economies of scale to ensure maximum value is attained for minimum input. In light of the above, there is probably a little displeasure at the presidency seeing as the different States in the South West have brought themselves together under a single umbrella for this purpose. This action carries a political undertone to most outsiders of the zone. Yet it must be noted that approval for community policing had been given by the President as far back as April of 2019. For in a meeting with Northern traditional leaders, as gathered by Premium Times, the IG of Police publicly said that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the adoption of a community police system to combat growing security threats across Nigeria. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, made the announcement Tuesday, April 30th at the Forum of Northern Traditional Rulers in Kaduna. The event deliberated on critical security issues, especially as they affect the north. PREMIUM TIMES also reported that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said the Federal Government would announce a new policy on community policing for better service delivery. Now, this was not strange as everyone knows that the father of State Policing in Nigeria is none other than Vice President Yemi Osibanjo. He has always spoken in very clear terms on the need to have it in place as soon as possible in order to bridge the gap between the existent security outfits and the current lapses present at various occasions in time past, notably at a meeting with senior police officers. This was also noticed after the increase in robberies and kidnappings that trailed the elections of 2019. A Google search of the phrase Osinbajo and Community/State policing brings up over 100k hits in less than a second. A series of meetings with prominent Yoruba kings as the Ooni of Ife, the Alaafin of Oyo, the Akarigbo of Remo and the Awujale of Ijebu, led to a framework that was eventually agreed on with President Buhari on the 31st of July, 2019. There have since been more vested interests in the security of the people being directly borne by their traditional rulers which has cumulated in the relative peace being enjoyed in the region since the attack on the daughter of Pa Adefarati. So next time anyone tries to play a fast one by trying to insinuate that the Vice President as a member of this current administration would not be in support of the security outfit, you simply reiterate the words of Gov. Akeredolu where he asked that people should stop making divisive comments as everyone is simply after the safety of lives and properties in all states across the federation. Not far fetched though .... Decentralizing the security outfit should/would be of benefit which he had always pushed for 1 Like |

There is no doubt Osinbajo is one of the major agitator for state policing and he has been made his stand clear no to everyone, to me Operation Amotekun is a very good idea and a welcome development. 3 Likes |

VP Osinbajo has always been very clear on the need for community policing. Nobody can come out to tell us any lies on this one. Amotekun is simply community policing being adopted by the 6 governors. The people deserve security, so why is it illegal for their governors to provide assistance to the federal police that has always complained about being understaffed? 1 Like |

Osinbajo had been preaching the gospel of Community/State policing right from the days he was campaigning to be vice President. 2 Likes |

The vice president has been agitating for the community policing for long as a means of security and to combat the insecurities in our land but it's now they think and talk of Amotekun, so yemi osinbajo has always been fair enough to establish security in our land 1 Like |

The VP is not one to make so much noise but work in the background for things to work accordingly. The VP laid the foundation for all these at the meeting with the traditional leaders.

Osinbajo has always emphasized on community policing as a means of security to curb insecurities around us. Amotekun is a very good option that should be embraced |

Alhaja Yemisi Osunbade is a selfish cowardly Judas. This manlet is an epitome of spineless self centered corrupt and greedy politician. He learnt well from both Tinubu ( The Bastard of Westeroes) and Adeboye ( the head of the tithe clutching church of moloch). This pathetic excuse of a man , weaseled his way into Aso Rock solely with the experience of being Tinubu's manservant . Is this what Yaribanzas thought in their game of checkers could replicate Jonathan's feat ? |

Osinbajo has mind it clear on the community policing as a national security strategy and informed to the citizen to bring in the trust gap between the police. It a good option. |

The VP is the main advocate of community policing even before the operation Amotekun. Community Policing brings police and citizens together to prevent crime and solve neighborhood problems. With community policing, the emphasis is on stopping crime before it happens, not responding to calls for service after the crime occurs. |

Community policing will really help in eradication of our security problem that's if all the state's will come under one umbrella to make this work it will really go a long way with the help of our traditional rulers and states government. |
