First off, ewi is not a rabbit but bush rat,
Secondly the specie that causes Lassa fever is mastomys natalensis.

The easiest way to identify them is that they have a lot of breasts underneath and a longer snout. Some schools of thought have also suggested that the shrewlike rat Orr nkapi as is called in Igbo (also has a long snout) may also be a vector. This however hasn't been medically proven.

In conclusion, though ewi or bushrat doesn't cause Lassa fever. It is advisable to avoid rodents as meals but rather choose other protein alternatives as there are a lot of them readily available and inexpensive too
